Default Reaper and XR18 how to record soft synths?

I seem to have all 16 my regular XR18 inputs recording correctly into reaper. But I'm not sure how to get my soft synths or any of my windows sounds to record. I can hear them, and see the signal on the Aux channel.

But I can't figure out how to assign that to a track in Reaper. I only see the 16 inputs.

Hoping to get to the point where it's all setup for 18 tracks of recording and then I can save it to template.

Thx!!

Can't you open the VST version of the softsynths in Reaper?

If there's a reason you need to use standalone synths then you'll either need to use WASAPI shared loopback mode or use a third part app like Voicemeeter.

Thank you!!

I guess I could just open the VST in reaper.

But often my workflow is more ad-hoc where I'm trying to record whatever softsynth or effects or even a youtube video grabs my attention.

I'll look into those options you mentioned

Much appreciated!

I can get my windows system sounds to go through the XR18 on aux or any two channels and control it via the mixer and add xr18 effects. But I still can't record those two tracks in Reaper.

Is audiomeeter or similar the only option?

Is the issue you can't see USB IN 17/18 in Reaper or that you can't record what you are playing back via USB? AUX is interchangeably called 17/18 in the XR18.

Hope this helps,

whoops - sorry for the delay.

I see no signal on Ch 17/18 in the xair mixer - and no signal in those channels in reaper. But I do hear the audio.

Maybe I messed up the routing?

Hi Wolfereeno,

It's really easy to get routing messed up when using a beast like the XR18 as an audio interface in combination with Reaper.

Can you save a scene file from your mixer and post it along with the .rpp file you are using?

Hi Wolfereeno,

Ah. Now I think I understand. What you are doing is sending your windows system sounds out USB 17/18 and while you can hear the output through the mixer, you can't record it.

The reason for this is because of the XR18 default USB Send Tap point. The USB Send Tap point (to PC) is BEFORE the USB Return (from PC) Insert point.

Using X-Air Edit, Click on In/Out (upper-right corner) and click on the USB Send Tab. Right click on USB 17 and change it from "Analog" to "Input". Do the same for USB 18.

Let me know what questions you have.
