I had some problems with my rinky dink little website yesterday. We ended up wiping everything and starting over, but I still have the same problem with things loading slow, at least on my end.

Only have a a few mp3's on there so if I could ask a big favor, could you go to my site https://cmnfs.com and tell me if it runs slow for you.

I just tested it, and it's pretty fast. The initial load-time was a bit slow, but if you're server isn't in Europe, that's to be expected.

Hey toleolu,

There's a built-in tool you can use in Chrome and Edge browsers called "Lighthouse" which can generate automatic audit and performance reports for websites. For both mobile + desktop views, and with simulated network throttling.

Here are the results of mobile (throttled), and desktop (unthrottled). Both are pretty okay, nothing to be concerned about:

I've attached the actual HTML audit reports in a zip as well (ignore the name, it has both), if you want to read them for all the info.

Site took almost 10 minutes to load. Songs seemed to be playing at 1/4 speed. All the pictures looked like a moose on drugs.

Just kidding. It worked fine for me.

Works fine here, the server is able to deliver fast enough then so you should be good. The entire load is only 500k which is fine by today's standards by far.

Turns out it was my router. I did a factory reset on it and instelld the latest firmware so everything's working now. Damn computers.

I am running a decent Internet connection with direct Ethernet (not wi-fi).

Site took about 30 seconds to load and mp3s were very choppy - basically unlistenable pauses in playback.
Left for a couple of minutes allowed first song to play fine but second one was prone to cut out.

That does help because that was part of what I was experiencing. I was also having problems in the Word Press dashboard which was weird.

It's still working ok on my end for now, we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Damn computers.

Could be your ISP's traffic routing. At first connect, it's just a website. Once a few mp3s have been played, it's pushed to the "streaming host" category and gets a better routing.

Could also be a ipV4 vs ipV6 problem. That one I still don't understand. I don't speak ipV6

well a home web server going through a home router, it's going to have fast and slow response times simply based on what other things are going on on his network. Especially since upload speeds are going to be slower or less prioritized anyway. It might work fine then he starts watching YT videos and his website slows down or similar - including the machine it is being served from depending on what that machine is.

The other thing to consider (if this is at your place), is I ran a website or two from my house for years and eventually, you just get shit traffic all the time because it lives in DNS and everyone in the world sees it an tries to connect, bots, hackers, scanners, you name it. I eventually shut down most of mine because of all the unnecessary traffic incoming to my router.

It could be load on the webserver, or the connection of course. But hosting is pretty reliable, these days. At least over here. And as I don't know what hosting is used...

Yea something made me think that so good to know - I've ran sites from my home server for years but as I said, mostly hidden/removed for now to keep traffic down. I have a 1Gb/1Gb connection so bandwidth isn't an issue, just all the random traffic it attracts.
