Default Osc to Midi | Midi to Osc - new life for old digital mixer

Hello all.
I've an old digital mixer behringer DDX3216 that have only midi connection.
I thought "why don't give it a new life whit new technologies and daws ?"
well, midi to midi too intricate (develop midi software driver to interface daw in midi reception. w10 driver sucks for digital sign.) - discarded idea
Osc. wow osc is perfect.
just read osc, transform to midi and send midi to mixer and, important thing, no drivers are needed.
simple to implement for bidirection, and after 2 day i have a pre beta for testing.

Youtube video demonstration https://youtu.be/28vwGNubjgc

important - This work only for Behringer DDX3216

- master volume/pan full bidirectional
- 32 track/volume/pan/mute full bidirectional

Software required
- work in all windows version 32 and 64 bit(to do more tests)
- No driver requiered
- No installation required (just double click to program)
- Only 18 Mb ram usage
- Require only Microsoft framework 4.7.2
- maybe you need to add firewall exception for local net

Hardware required
- digital mixer (work only for behringer ddx3216)
- midi card (pci or usb midi device);
- midi card (i use M-AUDIO PROFIRE LIGHTBRIDGE but most likely it also works with cheap midi interface
because program doesn't reads SysEx messages).

thanks to who want to test sofware and report issue.
this is free and full functional support

in the zip file readme for instruction.

Hi David,

I also have such an old mixer. Just started trying to get it to talk to Reaper using the Control Surface Integrator when I came across your post.

Interesting project. Unfortunately, sending commands back to the mixer doesn't seem to work. The MIDI OUT "window" doesn't show MIDI commands but OSC data. Could that have something to do with it?

Also, it seems in your documentation you mixed up daw and osc bridge port numbers.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

hi frapcilia and thanks for posting.
windows in & out (midi and osc) are only for debugs and are irrilevants.
in the final version windows will be removed.
i will check instructions and update errors.
image below show how correct setting.

i want to remember you that it works only with behringer ddx 3216.
if you have this mixer, probably you have to setting mixer.
like tihs image.

if you have others problems, feel free to post here
thanks

you are right. istructions in the readme file was wrong. update info in the new download file.
if you have a different mixer (not a ddx3216) i can give you a standard midi reader (coded by me) and i can try to code osc to midi for your mixer. (obviously for free)

let me know

I really have a DDX3216.

Still, it does not want to work. There doesn't seem to be any MIDI sent to the mixer. MIDI-Ox shows only input as does the LED on the audio interface. It remains dark when, for example, toggling the mute state of the track.

Your OSXC Bridge sees the OSC command:

Any idea what I might try? How would I enable debug information for you?

Regards

hi,

what you see in the windows (osc & midi) in & out are only for debug. not original messages.
however it work 104,1 enable mute channel 1.

i can suggest 3 solutions.
- tried to disable temporarily yuor firewall ? (windows firewall or other firewall) ?
- setting in correct mode, mixer midi options, like the previous photo ?
- check cable midi (mixer in -> out midi card) and (mixer out -> in midi card)

let me know.

Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, it worked for the input.

My computer seems to have a general problem with sending MIDI to the interface. Need to find the culprit for that first. I'll come back later.

Hello, good job and my apologies in advance for my English translation.

I have a ddx3216 with firmware 1.12. I have followed all the steps but I get the following error.

This is a pop-up window that indicates an "unhandled exception of the application. If you click continue the application will ignore this error and try to continue. If you click exit the application will close immediately.
Insufficient memory to run this task .... "

I have 12GB of ram.

any ideas?

Thank you, best regards.
