Default Merging projects

Is there any way to copy and paste an entire project inside another one aside from saving the MIDI files and then loading them, and then loading all the patches again?

Two ways, I think.... This is the old way. Because I'm old.

This isn't to paste the "entire project", as such - project settings will not be preserved if they differ between the projects. It will copy the actual tracks, however, along with all audio, MIDI, VST, Automation info.... even the routing between the tracks is preserved, despite the change to the track numbers. Reaper Devs are clevererer than some DAWs' Devs I could mention.

You can use keyboard shortcuts of course, but I'm listing the steps to do everything from the Menus.

Open the Target Project.
File > New project tab.

In the new project tab,
File > Open project (the other project, of course)
Edit > Select all
Edit > Copy

Go back to the previous project tab (the target project). Select a track at this point (perhaps the last track in the project) because you're about to paste in after that track, IIRC....

Edit > Paste

The other way would involve using subprojects. I haven't even looked at that yet.

IMPORTANT

If you want to preserve the other project, and the RPP is in a different directory from the target project, save the target project immediately after pasting (so you don't forget), and be sure to use

File > Save project as

with the option to Copy (NOT MOVE!) all media into project directory.

Also important - if the tempo varies between the projects, you might need to adjust the Timebase for the projects/tracks/items accordingly.

Another option to try is using Track > Insert Track from Template > Open template which also supports loading .RPP Project files.

One thing to keep in mind in this case is to set the file type filter in the Open template dialog to Project files or All files (instead of the default .RTrackTemplate files setting).

It's a nice one, thanks!
