Default SOLVED: Bluetooth MIDI works on standalone, not in Reaper?

So I have my stand-alone LV's (well at least Pianoteq )running with Bluetooth MIDI, as in they recognise it as a MIDI source and I can play the instruments.

However when I load those same ones into Reaper the BT MIDI is not available.

Glenn provided this : sudo modprobe snd_virmidi which then adds 3 virtual midi ports each with 16 channels, but after enabling each one at a time, still no BTMIDI device shows up.

I have confirmed it IS working via the standalone versions, but cannot in Reaper as it does not see the BTMIDI device as a MIDI input.

Any other ideas on this one please?

I once did a Python program that (using PyGame) lists Midi devices in the OS. I don't know if same (i.e. PyGame) works in Linux.

Start qjackctl, if the BT ports show up there leave it running, start REAPER and switch the audio system to JACK.

Well, as an update here...seems the virtual midi in Reaper needs to be connected to the WIDI-Master BLE device, and I have found a way to do this via qjackctl.

So I can now use bluetooth midi in Reaper, albeit it MUST be via qjack...simply run qjack select the graph and drag a line between widi-master and virtual midi, which is called Virtual Raw MIDI btw in qjack.

Also it seems, so far, that even when I shut down qjack after that, the links remain until I shut down Reaper...not fully tested this however with opening additional VST instrument tracks, AFTER qjack is closed.

I can still run ALSA in Reaper for the audio.

No need...as per above post just connect in the graphic patch bay of qjack, and ALSA can remain as the audio in preferences in Reaper.

Nope no contradiction - I can run the LV (.so files) in Reaper. Pianoteq also provides a fully stand-alone Linux based executable

BTMidi = bluetooth midi, Im using it as shorthand, but it does appear as bt-midi in one of the bluez packages iirc

Cool. Glad you found a way to make it work.

Yep, finally the journey is complete

Thanks for the little snippets of suggestions you posted Glenn, each one led me to new research and in the end a solution!

Just completed an Image ( I use Macrium btw, works really well for EXT4 drives too)

So now onward and upward, complete conversions of Sonar projects and then start on some new stuff!

Gotta make backups no matter what OS you are using. I use Clonezilla and keep two 250GB Samsung SSDs and a little pigtail USB adapter in my desk drawer to clone the two partitions of my NVMe. Additionally, I have old spinner HDDs with backups as well.
