Default Problem with Pigments

I have a 2019 Macbook Pro and a Presonus Audiobox 96 with Reaper, Arturia Pigments 3, Analog Lab, Analog V.

Pigments and all work fine as standalones. They sound crisp and amazing.

Then I open Reaper and add Pigments as a FX and I get nothing. Reaper works great. The meeter is a little above the bottom but when I hit a key nothing happens.

I did a VST clear and re-scan but still nothing.

Any ideas?

I'm by far no expert. Just a record for a fun hobby. It used to work flawlessly but I stopped for about a year because I was super busy on the side.

Ideas?

Thanks

Help me!

I'm drowning in sorrow..

Cant get it to work.

Stand-alone works perfectly though...

Great sound.

I just can't record it.

I might have to just use the old reliable Korg D-3200 Digital Standalone Deck.

What kind of "key"? On an external MIDI controller? On Pigments' virtual keyboard? In Reaper's MIDI editor? If you haven’t tried all three of those methods, it’s worth a try to see if any of them work.

Do you see movement on the track meter, but don't get any sound? Or is there also no activity on the meter?

Is Pigments the only one with this problem? Or are all three not working?

It's on my Roland FA-06. It works like a charm as a stand-alone but when I choose it as a VST in Reaper I get nothing.

No movement at all.

Just the desktop VST's. Pigments and all the other, even Scuffham S-gear, for guitar doesn't work. Stand-alone they work perfectly. When I add the in Reaper as an effect nothing.

What do you want to do with pigment?

Synth or FX (like reverb, delay, chorus)?

I want to record it to Reaper. Pigments 3 has some mind blowing sounds. It's fun

But I can't get it to record.

I did the clear cache and re-scan and everything I used to do and I did and update.

I'm thinking I have it configured wrong.

But I Dont Have A Clue on whet to do now...

So you talk about the synth?

You create a track with midi item on it (with notes).
You put Pigments inside the FX chain of the same track.
You press the play button.

You can read some tutorials for beginners, too. You have Youtube, too.

This is the way I do it.

I go from my FA-06 into the audiobox96 inputs. Same with guitar and mike. Then I record to Reaper.

The Audiobox goes to the 2019 Macbook Pro. USB connectivity.

I have never recorded MIDI before as it's way over my head.

Before I took my pause from recording this system worked flawlessly.

Turn all equipment on, open Reaper, record. Super easy.

Now I can't get it to work.

I'm very frustrated.

I'm not a computer genius or know it all.

I just do this for fun and to relax. It worked great before. Now I'm lost.

I just removed the NEW version and reinstalled version 5.973.

Too much of a headache.

As soon as I opened the old version I knew where to look.

Tomorrow I will plug it in and take a ride.

I made some progress with the old version.

I can open the Pigments and other Arturia software without and problem in the Reaper add effects box. It the shows a keyboard at the bottom of the VST. If i use the cursor to strike a key it shows fully on the meter. It is a strong good signal.

It also records while I use the cursor on the keyboard.

BUT, if I use the Roland FA-06 keyboard I hear nothing and no meter movement.

Does anyone have ANY idea what I need to configure in Reaper to make this work?

I mean IF,

I open Reaper-Add a track-Add Pigments as an effect-Strike a key on the Pigments keyboard it works perfect.

If I strike a key on the physical FA-06 I get nothing.

I need help.

The old version is familiar to me and I love it. It might not be as good and stable as the newest but for me as a hobbyist it is perfect.

Check that your FA-06 is enabled in the midi devices dialog. If it isn't then you must enable it for input. I think what you could do is check out some of the online tutorials offered by Kenny G. They are available from the Reaper site.

Good luck

Thanks Big Time!

I will do that right now. I did not change anything on reaper. I was trying earlier and when I open Reaper and add Pigments as an effect the program page comes up and the programs keys work. I actually recorded something doing it this way. But when I touch a key on the FA it doesn't work. I will check Kenny G.

Thanks again

I did all of what was suggested and still met with nothing.

Ugh.

This is getting old.

Once I get this working I will take about 100 screenshots and physical pictures so I will never have this problem again.

In Reaper, are you able to assign the FA-06 as a MIDI input to the track, and record some MIDI notes from it?

If so, check that the FA-06 is sending on the same MIDI channel that Pigments is set up to receive.

If you don't see the FA-06 as a MIDI input in Reaper, then that's a problem that still needs to be resolved.

OK...here it is step by step

Make sure sure your FA-06 is an enabled midi device CTRL-P/Midi devices
If it isn't there, make sure it is before going any further.
If it isn't enabled make sure it is before going any further.
If this is not done nothing you do will fix the problem.

then select Track/Insert virtual instrument on new track

select Pigments from your vsti list

The result should create a track with Pigments activated
by All midi devices/all midi channels

Don't forget to enable the track for record and enable output monitoring.

Come on hwhalen.

It might be something as simple as a click.

And I believe you have the key.

If you give me your email I will email the screenshots.

I would be beyond happy and at 62 years old be able to enjoy my hobby until I go record in the skies.

Thanks.

From the screenshots, it looks like your FA-06 is connected/enabled correctly.

Have you tried the other steps listed in post #19? Make sure that you:

1) Set the track to record MIDI and assign the FA-06 as the MIDI input device
2) Have the FA-06 transmitting on the same MIDI channel that Pigments is set to receive on
3) Have armed the track for recording, and enabled record monitoring

Thank you lunker.

I just got back from the Doctors office and as soon as I let the dogs out and back in I will give them all another shot.

I now have a clean and up to date copy of Reaper. I also did a Factory Restore on my FA-06.

Again, than you for the response.

If you had done this prior to my having detailed it with images possibly you would have had your answer 2 days earlier.

Have fun!
