Default Windows 10 4K Scaling & Ableton

Why is Ableton Live able to scale plugins properly on 4K monitors in WIN 10 and Reaper isn't? Its obviously technically possible - whats the holdup?

Ableton cannot properly scale all plugins to 4k:
https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/ar...pport-Windows-

"Auto Scale Plug-in Window

Certain HiDPI plug-ins may require you to manually disable scaling (via the context menu) in order to use them on HiDPI screens. (Note: This feature does not apply to VST3 devices, which are auto-scaled by default)."

You may want to try the new prototype for Reaper 6 GUI:

Side note: AAS just added scaling to one of their plugins and works for any resolution (no doubt more to follow):

This is referring to plugins that are DPI aware on their own. So in order to make scaling work for some of those type of plugins you'll need to get Abletons native scaling out of the equation so they do not clash.

Ableton can however scale literally every single non-DPI-aware plugin out there. I've tried it. (e.g. very old plugins that have been discontinued, all of Native Instruments' stuff, etc)

So the question now is - how did they do that? I used to think this is a windows based limitation we'll just have to live with, but obviously it isn't.

Thanks for the Reaper 6 Theme link btw! Looking sweet!

That Ableton upscaling is better than nothing no doubt, but since scaling isn't standardised we can see the issues.

I don't know if the graphics rendering will change in version 6, I imagine it won't add GUI upscaling but at least you will see advancements in the theming tools to accommodate scaling new themes, and with more VSTs internally scaling their GUIs this is becoming less of an issue.

Proper scaling is pretty darn useful even if you don't have a high DPI or 4/8k panel. Much easier to work on sounds having a software synth fill most of the screen.

Glad you found the theme link useful.
