Default Getting a vst on a new track

How do I get a VST, MIDI piano for instance, onto a blank track? Right now I open the FX and choose a VST which then attaches to that track via the FX. Is there another way of doing it?

Thanks for the help.

Add the piano to an empty track, save it as a template. Do the same for other instruments. Templates are your best friend.
