Default Reamote can't find VST plugins

When I run Reamote in portable installation of Reaper, it won't detect any of the installed VST/VSTi plugins, even though those are visible in Reaper and listed in reaper-vstplugins64.ini
Tested clean Reaper install - no success.
Though I don't use the "typical" "C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins" path, rather store my VST on different partition.

Any idea what to do?

I generally use portable installs too, and last ReaMoting I did was fine (probably used v5.2x)

Have you run the reaper.exe that is in the portable install with reamote.exe and made sure that all required plugins are available there? If not then that is the problem, add the correct VST path and restart, or use the 'scan' button.

After that reamote should work.

Of course, I thought I made that clear:

OK, well that's a bit strange. I just tested 5.25 and 5.35 portables.

reamote 0.92 started up fine and found all plugins with both.

I connected with two laptops and both 5.25 and 5.35 were working.

Do you mean that if you run reamote that no plugins are found at all? Even JS effects?

I haven't had that before. Sorry I probably can't help more tonight, it's saturday night were I am, and guests just arrived.

Good luck!

It only finds the built-in 20 VSTs and 214 JS effects.
In regular installed REAPER, Reamote found 35 VSTs.

Have you tried to change plugins location?

What about the file 'reaper-vstplugins.ini'? Or are you using 64 bit exclusively?

I was testing only in 32 bit plugins.

Maybe you could try some tests with 32 bit.

Perhaps there is some issue with 64 bit plugins with reamote.

Reading this I'm wondering if you have actually set up properly.

Just in case. Have you absolutely definitely run the reaper.exe that is in the same portable folder as the reamote.exe that you are trying to slave? (not at the same time obviously). It is essential that you do that and add your custom VST path in THAT PORTABLE INSTALL, because the path is stored in the reaper.ini file. There is no reamote.ini reamote.exe reads the reaper.ini in the portable install in order to get the 3rd party plugin path.

(If you knew that already, sorry, but it may be useful to others to know)

I think this is your key, if you put your plugins in the same folder as the Reaper plugins, that won't work. I'm not saying you did that but as vitalker alludes to, if you create a separate VST location, and then direct Reaper to that location, it should work.

Make sure your 32bit and 64bit are separate.

Here are the lines from the reaper.ini IN MY PORTABLE INSTALL

Quote:
vstpath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3;C:\VST plugins
So when reamote.exe in the portable install is run reads that and finds the 3rd party stuff in C:\VST plugins.

And it works fine (for all plugins that are the same version on both the Master (REAPER) and Slave (reamote) machines)

Just to say this again. The paths do not have to be the same on Master and Slave machine, except in a very small number of plugins. The essential thing is that they are the same version. Also mac/win reamoting does not generally work, except for JS effects. (and I believe Cockos plugs, but never done that myself)

For getting ReaMote work, the appropriate plugins need to be installed in exactly the same way on both boxes (including licensing, iLok etc, if necessary).
