Stickman you read my mind like a book.

Great stuff in combining the chords and arps in one download.

Ive added the sus2, sus4, 7sus4 and m7b5.
I also added "edit: move edit cursor right by grid" at the end of all the actions.

I also found that a well placed "Unselect All" action will allow certain notes out of the octave, so i fixed the 9th chords.
Now only the 9th will be out of the octave.

I also named the arps correctly (some of them still had the names of the scale they were derived from)

Aoelian.... nice but it's getting a little confusing now as to IF the latest keymap and the latest actions for it are all together?

I still find the ArpII.zip on the stash and know that had them both....

So may I plz request a big favor of you?

That the newest actions and the newest keymap again be combined into one zip file and put up on the stash as such and the older stuff be remove from the stash?

And one more fav... that you post here the list of arps as they are now... like you did before but complete with all the new ones... the reason is that it will help me as I'm making toolbar buttons for them so if I can see that list of your name it will help get them sorted in photoshop... I will have work on button abbreviations that will fit and be readable.

Thanks if you can

Man... if we can get that new action... WoW MoM!

... and I'd still like these arps combined with the chords in the contextual menu like what Stickman did.. Downloading your new one will lose that, no?

Here's one more thing all these custom actions need: CONSOLIDATE UNDO POINTS.

Please.

Maybe it's also clever to add "Unselect all notes" before starting the addition of notes, this way weird things will stop happening when repeatedly inputting chords.

Default OK then vote like crazy

Please vote it up... it's a FR for that one simple action we have been talking about:

Edit: set selected note to active position

or maybe it should be said, 'set active postion to selected note'.... hard to know the proper reaperese

http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=3209

shoot don't even know if I'll get slammed for making a FR that is really aimed at V4... but the thread won't let you post unless you choose which version the FR is aimed at and there is not even a choice for 3.75... oh well, the worst 'they' can do is yell at me

Totally agree with both points ED mentions.

Hopi, I think this whole topic is not at all v4 specific. I am thinking about whether we should make a thread in the Tips and tricks forum, as all this can be done in v3.x, so it would be nice to share these action sets with those who don't read over here. Your FR is well placed in the tracker. Voting, of course .

Anyway, as there seems to be demand, I dug out the guitar campfire basic strumming chords I did. There are major, minor, major7, dominant7, minor7 and dim7 chords in open E, A, C and G shape each with down- and upstroke strums. Maybe someone wants to go from there and add some sweet 6th, sus and whatnot chords. I did the strums by moving the edit cursor two pixels between the note inserts, so you can determine the strum speed with the horizontal zoom factor. The further in you zoom, the slower the virtual plec will move.

If you like, grab them here: Guitar campfire strum chords.ReaperKeyMap

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/7795/Chords_Scales_Arps.zip

Others zips are gone

"Consolidate undo points" ticked on all arps

Matching ReaperMenu file (added some dividers too, let me know if it still looks "cluttered")

"Edit:Unselect All" added as last action, for all arps

They need to be re-rolled with the chord menu/actions added.

EDIT: they should now look like this in the menu

Major
Minor
Augmented
Diminished
sus2
sus4

6
m6

Maj7
m7
7
m7b5
mMaj7
Diminished 7th
7sus4

Maj9
m9
9
m7b9
7b9
Maj7#11 (7th and 9th are "implied" )

Pedal - Major
Pedal - Minor
Invert Pedal - Major
Invert Pedal - Minor
Bass 4ths
Bass 5ths
Octaves

ANOTHER EDIT: there are the actions "Edit: Note velocity -1/+1/-10/+10"
Ill could use these to slightly vary each note, but so they all still average around 100-ish
Ill put it together tonight and see if it salutes.

Hey i just grabbed these ..... very nifty.

I just pumped them through a rompler with a nice 12 string gtr patch.

If a real techno-head came through here and whacked out 10 or 20 arps of a more "synthetic" kind, we could have a nice little collection going

Great progress guys... and my thanks to ya all....

I have a set of buttons now for all the arp's so far... but since they are in my mad colors I doubt most people will want them... but I am happy to share as wanted...

I'll get those strummers in just a second...

gofer.. I copied your chords link here as the one in your post did not work for me

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/7773/Guitar...s.ReaperKeyMap

Well gofer, I think you are right about posting a link to this thread or copies of it in the other V3 forums... I've been tending to hang out mostly with the V4 threads lately but surely anyone using reaper at all would love this stuff. Please do it and I'll go look and yak it up.

I am really curious to get that new action since with it, I could make an action that combined some of these arp actions an in a stroke insert a long climbing arp!

Default Another Menuset

Ok, it seems like every time I add more stuff, my menus get botched.
Anyway, I rebuilt again with Aeolian's latest and added gofer's open chords as well. Enjoy

Fixed the link in my previous post, thanks, Hopi

Aeolian, what ED meant was "unselect all" as first action, instead of at the end of the combo. That way the notes inserted with a chord/arp action are selected and ready for the quick edit of the whole chord. The unselect is to have other notes deselected. Mine work like that and it's handy that you can just grab eg the length or position and fix it on the fly for all notes that belong to the last custom action.

Very cool idea with the velocity offsets, I'm tempted to go into the guitar chords once more and blow them (further) up with some of those .

EDIT:
Hopi, you can do your long climbing arps with the in/decrease actions we have now. You just move the active position as needed relative to the pitch it is placed on (before the action is triggered) between the inserted arp pieces . Eg, your example on the previous page just needs 4x "increase AP by semitone" between the major arps to start the next group a major third above the previous. It's a good idea to move it back to the starting point at the end of the custom action.

Here you can find maixueguonian's complete chords set, maybe it can be useful.

so help me discuss this idea plz:

Let's take the major ARP as an example...
It used to be that it would insert and end up with the cursor at the left of the last note with all the inserted notes selected.

As you can see in the gif I made many posts back, I was messing with that to be able to keep inserting more ARP's that would begin on that last note. To do that I had to unselect all, then clk on that last note so it becomes the 'active position' note as well as being the selected note. Then the next ARP will insert and overwrite that note and create a 'climbing ARP' series.

There is not midi action yet to make that last note the 'active position' note.

Now the ARP macros have changed... so the cursor goes to the right edge of that last note instead of the left edge.

So I currently see this two ways:

One - fine as it is and you just insert the next ARP and then manually move it where you want it.

Two - something like this: After the ARP is inserted, action to unselect all, then action to select note at left of cursor, then action to move cursor to left edge of that note, ...and then the missing FR action, 'set selected note to active position'...

Now that would let you insert another Major ARP that would continue climbing.

Obviously this can now be done manually, but IF we get the FR action, it would be possible to make new custom actions, using the Aoelian ARP's strung together with what I've said above, and in a stroke insert a 'climbing' Maj ARP that went on for any number of bars.... Am I making any sense to you?

This idea would not work well for all the ARP's as they exist... but would work [I think] for most of the simpler ones.

Like the idea? Then PLEASE vote and bump the FR!
[and any more that gofer comes up with also ]

Hopi, try this:

- unselect all
- Insert note at current note
- Move edit cursor right by grid
- Insert note at current note +04 semitones
- Move edit cursor right by grid
- Insert note at current note +07 semitones
- Move edit cursor right by grid
- Insert note at current note +12 semitones
- Move edit cursor right by grid
- Insert note at current note +07 semitones
- Move edit cursor right by grid
- Insert note at current note
- Move edit cursor right by grid

- increase active position one semitone
- increase active position one semitone
- increase active position one semitone
- increase active position one semitone

(the blue part is Aelion's major arp action as described in his OP, extended by the "unselect all" - which is irrelevant for your purpose so you might leave it out, but I like it like that)

Now you can
a) run that action repeatedly and have exactly what your gif ani shows without having to select a note in between.
b) call this action eg "major climb" and build a custom action with multiple instances of "Custom: major climb" to have a single action which climbs as far as you like

as in
- Custom: major climb
- Custom: major climb
- Custom: major climb
- Custom: major climb

What am I missing?

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/7795/Chords_Scales_Arps.zip

All the arps, all of Maxguido's chords (his list was .... extensive) and a whole boatload of scales thrown in for kicks (again, thanks to maxguido for the preliminary work) ..... All in a single zip, that contains all this goodness in a single ReaperMenu/ReaperKeyMap pair.

The entire lot has "Edit:Unselect All" at the start of the action chain, as well as "consolidate undo points" ticked

I tweaked and trimmed maxguidos MASSIVE chord list, and these now contain the same action order/layout as the arps (ie using "insert note +09 semitones", instead of 8 consecutive "move note +1 semitones" ......

Both the chords and the scales should follow the same behaviour as the arps

Thanks a lot Veto ! Im trying to install

One question , do i install this menu bar only to the midi window ?
And will I lose all my floating menu's?
If so , how can I install and maintain my own menu?

Default quick question

if I right click the midi editor I can see "Insert Arpeggio" listed but NOT insert chord or Scale. Is it possible to do this with right clicking the midi editor?I have downloaded the zip files but have perhaps put the key map in the wrong place.

Default ok I figured it

I have to go to the Actions List then menu editor then choose midi Piano roll context then choose Import then click on the Chords scale Arp file and its done.

Now when I right click the midi editor I have insert Scale Chord Arpeggio available.

Thanks for the great work guys.

Thank you Aeolian for putting it all together in one package. Nice job on the menuset, too! Is it too much to ask for descending arpeggios?

gofer.... thanks as ever... I will go play with this and yes, I understand it as a 'way'....
I still think the FR for 'set selected note to active position' would be a great thing for us to have... It would avoid all the vaious 'semitone' calculations making it easy as can be...

But as a work around in the meantime I will certainly try this.

I am a little disappointed that Cockos has not responed to the email... I would assume this FR would be a very easy addition.

PS

Quote:
Custom action name: AAAA Climb 4 Semitones

Edit: Increase active position one semitone
Edit: Increase active position one semitone
Edit: Increase active position one semitone
Edit: Increase active position one semitone
Add note nearest to the edit cursor to selection
Navigate: Move edit cursor to start of selection
above is my modification that actually works just right, but ONLY for ARP's like the Major Arp... For say the Minor you need one semitone less, etc.

Now this is EXACTLY why I desperately want that one new action!

With it we could have a custom action that would fit all occasions.

gofer and guys:

I think this is a bug but maybe it's a feature I don't understand?

Make an empty midi item
Open the midi actions and run a couple arp macros

good so far.,..

Leave the actions window open... but do close the midi editor

Now make a new empty midi item... same or other trak...
Open that in the Midi Ed., and try to run an Arp from the that same midi actions window that you left open...

For me it will NOT run, until I close that actions window and reopen it from the current midi editor...

I would expect that with a midi actions window open, it would run actions for what ever midi editor you had open.

If what I'm saying is not clear, tell me plz.

I think it is a bug or at least I wish it worked differently.

Silent... are you talking about the actions for start\stop recording or something else?

The one action requested in this thread and on the FR thread has not [yet?] been added.

Did I miss something added to the midi ed???

I'm talking about this one.

+ MIDI editor: actions to set time selection or loop points to selected notes, fit notes to time selection

Do you think the following ideas (for new actions) would improve the whole chords concept?

1) Select all notes (touching) at the edit cursor.

In other words, select all notes the edit cursor touches. For selecting a complete chord in one move.

2) Select all notes, vertical to the mouse pointer. Similar to (1) but at the point of the mouse pointer, no need to involve the edit cursor.

3) Chord inversion UP and DOWN actions!

Select a chord (two or more notes)
UP: transpose the lowest selected note, and only that, an octave higher.
DOWN: transpose the highest selected note, and only that, an octave lower.

Being smarter: if the end position of the note already exists, then leave that and transpose the 2nd selected note. etc...

What do you think?

I make chords and arpeggios and all kinds of funny things in a very simple way. I use Keyboard Maestro. Perhaps that solution is too limited and simple for hardcore reaperiters. I attach two images, before1.png and after2.png. Note that the base note has different velocity and duration. All is done in the same macro. It is simple and easy and enough for my needs.
Attached Images
File Type: png before1.png (13.5 KB, 137 views)
File Type: png after2.png (22.1 KB, 132 views)

Default Need some help !

Need some help I think, cause it doesn't work for me.
- Downloaded zip file
- Unzipped it
- Copied each file in its proper C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Application Data\REAPER\ directory
- Imported chords_scales_arps.ReaperMenu in the MIDI editor context menu
- Opened the MIDI editor
- Made a right click : all menus and sub-menus appear well
- Loaded Chords_Scales_Arps.ReaperKeyMap : nothing appears on the piano-roll keyboard, but maybe it's OK
- Created a new MIDI note on MIDI editor
- Tried to create a scale, a chord, an arpeggio : nothing happends
- Repeated the same without creating a note : the same
- tried this with both v3 and alpha v4 : the same

So where did I went wrong ?

Thanks a lot.

i think u forgot to load the keymaps with the custom actions that are needed for the menus to work properly

->go to "actions" , open the action list and import the keymap file
