Default How to set Play/Edit curser not to move all the time?

hey,

i would like to set the Play/Edit curser not to move when i click into an item or add a midi note etc.

i would like it only to move when i click into the timeline at the top.

where can i find this setting?

I think editing the Mouse Modifiers should get what you're looking for.

Look under Media Item > Left Click > Default Action

Unfortunately there's no way to trap the Left Click in empty areas in the Arrange View. Why, I don't know.
Use Track / Left Click default to trap empty areas. I set mine to deselect all items.
I set Track / Double Click default to action

Custom: Play from here
View: Move edit cursor to mouse cursor
Transport: Play

I also set Track / Ctrl+Double click to toggle snapping.

excellent my friends!

it is just awesome how many things can be modified to perfect the own workflow.

i have also set it up so that it plays the project when i double click on the ruler. very nice feature.

conversely, i WANT the cursor to move when i'm left clicking on the envelope or cc lanes, but there is no option for this / no explanation for it's absence

To stop play cursor jumping to where you click when entering MIDI notes......Options> Preferences> Audio> Seeking> un-tick 'Empty areas of tracks'.
