Then I recommend you not to use it. It is even better to use a default one.

But if you care about your privacy/safety, then use a commercial one. I like NOD32 a lot. It has Internet Security edition and is very cool. There is a 30-days trial version, so you can try it out.

Maybe it's a good choice . You can also check files with this online tool (it contains all the AV programs): https://www.virustotal.com/gui/

I'd say when it comes to security software, stick to what the crowd recommends, vs. what some company sends you in an email about software they've made. It's a good way to end up with Malware. Of course, you were smart enough to ask.. but a lot of people (ex., my mom) will just install software willy-nilly because the software said it was a great idea or necessary. Don't get me started
Anyways, my own personal recommendation is MalwareBytes (paid version), but different strokes for different folks. I also run (paid) CCleaner occasionally to clean out bad stuff. Some musicians won't like either software though, because it involves installing a program on their DAW computer, and that can slow things down. That said, those types typically work completely offline and sans antivirus.
You definitely did the right thing by asking!

At the moment it's a confusing terrain, thanks to the SolarWinds attacks. MalWarebytes has even been affected. I'm kind of leary of any "security" software at the moment, I'm sure they've all been targeted.
...but the op is looking at a fake AV...
