Those are some nice looking icons. Not too garish, just smooth and professional looking. Great job!
Cheers,
Randy
Thanks man. I'll try and get a whole set up soon... I just put those together over lunch. I'll tweak them a bit and work on the rest of the set this week.
here's my icon/theme offering, which is just about finished.. still a few minor things to clean up before i post the files. It's pretty conservative but definitely easy on my eyes.. didn't realize how much time making 16x16 icons take, i'm sure Justins havin a chuckle at that! .. however a great learning experience though & makes me appreciate the work thats put in by the programmers.

Yeah, me like these icons - Justin should use them for the default - not too busy, modern looking though. In general, I think the icons under the menu and above the tracks need to go completely. Make them an option, or put something else in that space - or get more shortcut icons to fill that area evenly, it just looks kinda disjointed.
oh I know what to put there - how about a mini-virtual mouse clickable piano? that would be cool for quick auditioning vstis and stuff - might look neat too.
cheers to you. obviously that took a lot of work AND looks impressive (though maybe a little TOO blue for my tastes).
HOWEVER...
(and i know i'm in the minority here and this is not to slight akoustic's considerable time and effort),
i had to think WAY too much when dealing with the whole icon thing. sounds stupid, but reaper is deceptively simple looking, and to me that's a GOOD thing (the power is under the hood). but paging back and forth between the akoustic icon version and the generic "brad sucks" project, i couldn't help but feel claustrophobic with the lack of space in the icon version.
i don't know how to explain this, but icons kinda make you wanna push the button to see what it does, where as in justin's simple version, you can just do the work at hand.
Not so sure you're in a total minority. So far I've not seen anything that I want to use more than this -
Just aiming, along with the Plain theme, for as much clarity and at-a-glance simplicity as possible. Probably not fashionable. Would look more sexy if 3D, I'd conceded.
I'd suggest holding back awhile on choosing a new default - let's see what emerges and be sure of picking the best just once.
I get this feeling (though sorry Art, not from looking at your screenshot ), that in a couple of weeks we will be hearing the last of "REAPER is ugly" comments.. sure, there will be plenty of "it doesnt look GREAT", but, mmm, so awesome...
It's just occurred to me that to really upset the new users, one can now have icon sets whose designs actually have nothing to do with the functions of the buttons. Swap M and S, for instance.

Perhaps I need help.
hahahhaha
yeah. or all of the buttons could just say the same thing...
...i think if everyone posts a couple there should be tons to choose from. I feel the most important thing is that "vistors" get to try the software in its completeness and not subjectively because it's GUI isnt like the other sequencers they used to, (which those dev teams have spent years working on). A silly example is the the SAW GUI... for me it looks like a candy factory - but thats my own preference & takes nothing away from it being a great app which so many people love & use successfully.
Sounds crazy but for many having their app looking like the business, is important 2 - being able to customize like this is just so wicked... looking forward to trying out all the new theme packs.
