Walls Make The Audience
Life is what happens while you're endlessly procrastinating, huh?
I posted an earlier version of this a while back when it was just a sketch (some might recall), and of the all the others I posted but still haven't finished yet, this one keeps making me try to get it there the most. I think it's pretty close. What do you think?
I wrote lyrics and even recorded vox, but I don't really like to hear them. Or I prefer the sound of the earlier gibberish version. I kinda wish someone better would do it instead...

Some "realtime" feedback on the soundclound would be swell too, thanks.

I like the concept, good job! Drums timing editing would be good.

I really like it. Great vibe and groove.
I'd like to hear the gibberish version.

I really like that verb/delay you have on the drums. Gives them a 'presence.' Bass is coming thru kinda strong on my end. The song itself is cool though.

Like some objects after reconstruction/repair show the crack lines and damage from when they were broken. Not saying you "rage quit" on computer or anything haha,no,it just suggests something like that to me.Or is that partly the suggestion of a picture of a sea wall that has stood against the force of the ocean?
Does not need vocals but with great words to sing,a voice could ???
Yeah..well that's what they all say,right?
Rhythm tightening? ehhhh...I quite liked the loose effect of all that percussion myself but have not been analysing just listening, casually.
The descending synth line is a cool occurence.
What if you play to nine miserable people in a field..are they not audience? Hahhaa
Good track
I like

Yea I was mixing kinda loud on headphones, so I prolly need to dial back the bass. The drum verb is EpicVerb, which surprised me cos I don't use it all the much, but it worked great here I thought.
Thanks!

I like that imagery, actually. Maybe I can work some of that into the lyrics. I had a line about sirens and somehow that image came up in a search. It seemed fitting.

Thanks! Yea I know the drums are kinda loose (drums are not my first language), but once I start editing it's easy to lose the groove. Maybe I'll just quantize the electronic drum elements and leave the real drums.

Sounds good mon
Nice sense of progression you've got going on. Really like where the synth enters and how sometimes, the distortion on the bass suddenly seems to grab a little bit more and get a little bit of a bite

Thanks, mon! Yea I was gonna re-do the bass cos there was some pretty audible noise in the silent parts, but somehow that started to sound good through the amp and added to the groove so I left it.

Excellent track Fox. I've been trying to get that snare sound, is that a live kit or a vst? Really nice wallop on the snare which surprisingly many sample sets lack.

Thanks! It's mostly live kit, but there's some Maschine in there too. I usually start with a drum machine and add real drums later. It's a hydraulic head on the snare and I wrap it in a T-shirt for that dead fish sound. A little compression and gating thru a cheap dbx unit (can't recall the model). Just a 57 on top.

A sound worthy of making a commercial sample set from imho, it's the one main thing I've struggled to attain with drums is that warm snare wallop that still allows everything else to come through, good gating job.
I'd be your first customer if you kept the price to say 15 or twenty bucks, I'm not a miser but I got overheads.
Even just the snare samples of this track would be fine.

Thanks again Morgon. I'm not motivated to do that, but if you like it that much I'll just send you the snare track and you can chop it up. No idea if it'll be as good on its own, but you're welcome to try.
It's worth thinking about though if there's a market for such things. I'm just not a business minded guy.
You should try the T-shirt trick or the more common Beatles trick with the tea towel. I like that dead sound as well. It's a metal snare I've been wanting to replace for ages, but lately I've gotten it to play pretty nice.

I'd really appreciate that snare track, thanks much. I've had a couple of real kits in the past but sold them off as I moved around. Should I PM an email address or will you post a download link?, much appreciated.

I listened to this the other day, but I went scatterbrain and didn't comment at the time. Listening to it again now. Very cool stuff. It's one of the better compositions I have heard on the forum over the years. Would like to hear it with a vocal part, as a song.

Thanks brainwreck. I think you're right, I have to finish the vocal part.
On the one hand, the lyrics are personal and I already have melody ideas recorded. But OTOH, hearing me sing them kinda makes me cringe.
I was toying with the idea of singing my ideas, printing the fx sends, then removing the dry tracks and having someone better sing the lead parts. You might be able to hear some of that in this track and I like the ambiguous texture it gives. And I do have sisters who can sing.
But maybe I'm really just avoiding the difficult task of finishing the song myself. Got a few more close to this stage. Loads actually. I'm really bad at finishing songs. I'm gonna share some more soon tho...

The first 20 seconds brought me in and it just got deeper after that. I like the richness, texture and expression of it.

Man, this has such an awesome feel.
DONT TOUCH THAT BASS! It's dirty, maybe a little boomy but it just drives this track beautifully.
Not sure if I've commented before on your tracks but you got some great stuff. This is exceptional though. Can't wait to hear some vocals on it.

Haha, aye aye cap'n! Yea it was on my list to redo because there's a lot of noise in the recording, but I ended up liking how it would creep into the gaps and almost start feeding back due to the compression.
Thanks for the compliments. Clearly the consensus is that it wants me to add vox.
