Default just some suggestions/ideas.

i'm really enjoying getting into this reaper.
actually i'm not grim...i'm happy...lol
maybe it should be called the happy reaper !!
heres just some ideas.
1. in the main display it would be nice to have the option to fill the whole screen with the waveform area for the tracks.
and maybe have a little button to the left of the waveform
with just track no(name on the track)click the button and lo and behold up comes the detailed track vertical slice for adjustment/whatever....or at the bottom of the screen. ie...pan/volume/fx/track settings etc etc.
for me i just like a nice big waveform area.
2. for those folks with less than stellar sound cards as not all of us can afford the best ADA convertors...maybe have a track conditioning/analysis dsp option...whereby the dsp routine looks at the track in detail after recording and removes low level artifacts/noise and generally conditions the track to sound better. this might be usefull for friends of mine for example
with sound cards just above consumer sound cards with poor signal to noise ratios. maybe some interpolation feature as well.
3. what could really put reaper in a whole other league...
particularly with home recordists who can only afford cheap mics and mixers and sound cards at the consumer level might be some modelling features. before everyonejumps on me...I know...its difficult to emulate a 2k mic thru a 2k mic preamp into 2k
ADA....but it just might be something nice to try.
ie...offer different input signal chain models.
this is an area thats always interested me.
ie...is it doable in software ??
4. for those with sufficient cpu power maybe offer different reverb/echo dsp models. maybe an impulse modeller.
all the best.

For 1) You can turn off the mixer view (Ctrl-M) so the waveform view extends all the way to the bottom, and then drag the the vertical bar between the tracks and waveforms to the left. This isn't exactly what you were asking for, but it's close.

2 - 4 is effect plug-in territory rather than something Reaper itself should deal with. Jesusonic effects are bundled with Reaper and there's an amp simulator in there, which I imagine would work as a signal chain modeller if you can find an impulse of a 2K mic through a 2K preamp through a 2K ADA...

Continuing with some cosmetic suggestions:
- I'd like to see the Tempo-box, Locator-box and the toggles (Snap, Ripple, Auto X-Fade etc) right of the transport controls i.e. instead of reserving this space on the right side.
- Further, tighter linking of the vert. and horiz. Channel strips/faders; i.e. when you close the folder view on the left side, also hide the media track's faders contained in this folder in the horizontal mixer.
- I think this has been brought up already, but I'd like to see only ONE dialog box to handle all your I/O routing & monitoring needs.

Regards
Raphael

Well, yes, certainly this would be very nice, but like shane said, this really is effects territory, (Antares Mic Modeller, very nice...pricey though).

a question for you chaps/reaper users.
how do you hilite a section of an audio track to do something to ?? i'm not talking acid like loops here.....a continuous audio track is my situation. i'm finding i have to hilite outside the waveform itsself. is there another way ?
i'm so used to just dragging with the mouse on a waveform.
then doing something like a volume change or applying an effect or whatever.
old habits you know. i'm useing the cubaseish theme.
its kind of nice. lol....tried the lemony one....my eyes popped out. i like yellow on black myself for metering. but just minor stuff. no biggie.

Right now, what you can do is loop selection the area of interest, hilight the item in question, and hit shift+s (split items at loop selection) and do with it as you may. I know this probably isn't exactly the answer you're looking for, but it works well. I come from a Samplitude background, so it's not what I'm used to, either. Samp's got about half a dozen or so "mouse modes" which do all sorts of things includeing highlighting things like you describe. (So it's taken some getting used to for me, as well)

Yeah, we all got on a little kick making themes for a while, some are pretty bizarre! (particularly the ones I made-which I think included the "lemony one" of which you speak)

I usually use the "Heavenly Theme". I love it, I can't remember who made it. (Was it Synth?)

I don't think so. I'd like to see the meters colors, etc. configurable as well.

yeh i tried on the meter colors.
no changeing them as far as i can see.
heres a tip for you fluffy ....say for laptop recording on the road.
an edirol ua1ex usb sound device is about 80 buks.
i built a little one transistor mic pre to feed it...plugged in a sm57 and sounds great on a recording.
the little mic pre costs about 10 bucks to make.
2 hour job. powered by a nine volt battery. the mic pre plus
the edirol fit in a laptop case. total cost 90 buks for a nice clean very low noise signal chain. i measured the noise level on software i have and its nearly immesurable. most mics have way more noise. just an idea for you in return for helping me.
i'll put up a 200k mp3 example so you can hear it if anyone knows where i can post the example.

Sounds like fun! I've been wanting to get into stuff like that.

I'm an electrician by trade, so I'm reasonable with an iron, but I'm not an ET by any stretch.

But I have been wanting to try my hand.

fluffy....
if you know anywhere i can post a sound example...
for you....
a 200k mp3 plus mic pre schematic i'll be glad to do so.
i think youll be surprised how clean the signal chain is.
ive worked with some pretty esoteric stuff....and it holds its own for a 90 buk solution. all the best.
ps..the reaper site doesnt let me attach mp3's.
