Not at all I hope it can be useful, probably it still needs some enhancing but if you have time to test it and tell me what you think it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Just copy/paste the code on your Video Processor instance and then save it as a preset

Code:
// Blend - Santo Clemenzi

//@param1:mode 'Blend mode' 1 -1 1 0 2
//@param2:alpha 'Opacity' 1 0 1 0.50 0.01

in1=0;
in2=input_track(0);

gfx_blit(in2);
gfx_a=mode*alpha;
gfx_mode=1;
gfx_blit(in1);

Here's a (lower bitrate, 280MB or so) version of my "subtraction" video:

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, but are there explanations as to what each of the video FX presets do?

Hi Nicholas, I did install the VLC codecs but it didn't work out for me. The one I DLed was v2.2.1 which airon suggested, does that not work?

I did post a couple of posts in airon's video thread, but so far I haven't heard from him. On guy did suggest 2.2.1 might be too new?

I should mention the video was working fine before I installed VLC. I only installed based on your recommendation, so I'm sure it's probably an easy fix.

What do you suggest?

I'd still like to get things working the way you suggested.

Justin was talking about VLC version in some of the more recent RC threads but I don't remember the details. Work in progress I'm sure.

Default text overlay ?

Hello,
Do you know how to get acute accent or grave accent like : é,è,à in the text overlay (video processor) on a Mac?
I have tried copy/paste with a kind of notepad like TextEdit or insert typographical character (with keyboard mac font system) but no success.
Thank you in advance.

Using the latest VLC is fine.

The one cardinal rule always is
64-bit Reaper -> 64-bit VLC

32-bit Reaper -> 32-bit VLC

Is there a way to reset the video decoder without force-quitting and restarting?

I'd prefer if it didn't crash all the time but for now I'd be fine with option to restart it.

Default Sony Vegas-Reaper / Alfa Chanel / Overlapping Images

Hi I work my "easy video duties" with Sony Vegas and would love to move all that into REAPER.

My doubt is how to overlap images or videos.

When I insert a .png file into Reaper (without background) it´s turns into white background automatically instead of transparent.

The other question is about overlapping videos. I have in Vegas a video imported and the option alfa chanel in proprieties and the back ground of the video disappears so I can combine it with the video or image in the track before.

I have already tryed inserting Video processor fx in the track in which I have the viedo that I would like in front.

Actually I dont want to fussion the two images, only overlap them like in this video a made with Vegas:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw9CMqEh4eE

At the begining of that viedo you can see several images overlaped and moving with another one (or another video) without opaccity just overlaped .

Alwayas there is a video or image working as video background

The rest are above this but in REAPER I can´t find how remove the back ground of the image track that are above

When I import in Reaper a .png that has trasparency in the backgroun it turns atomatically this back ground into black.

Another instance:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-khoUqsYi8

It´s posible to make it with REAPER ???? Can anybody explain me how ??

THANKS ¡¡¡

I like to keep things simple and effective as it boosts production for me the most. For video editing, in Reaper I already have:

- accurate frame sync
- accurate audio sync
- multi track editing
- advanced audio editing and processing
- support of various video formats
- flexibility

Even at this point, I can live with Reaper for video. All I still need is a simple colour correction tool. Sure, someone with coding skills can get it from the present FX form. But I'm not a coder.

Just my 2c.

edit:

something like that

With Sony ending development of Vegas Pro it's a real pity Reaper doesn't have a strong basic video editing structure and OFX plugin support. That would have attracted many Vegas users who are looking to switch since Reaper is so similar.
Sony has gone multi-platform with it's Catalyst group of products which are pretty basic at this time.

Apparently a very vocal section of the Reaper support is strongly against any video development fearing that it distract the developers from their original purpose and maybe rightly so.
However it is my view that in time most video and audio editing developers will be forced to advance into new territory to survive. We see it already happening with programs such as Blackmagic's Davinci Resolve 12 which has added vst plugin support and new and improved multi-track audio editing features and for free!
I remember the days when it was considered taboo to combine midi and audio in one program, I wonder.....are at that place once again?

I'm not a video guy, not at all, but I managed to edit and put together anyway a sneak peek videoclip for my next album with Reaper, in just few horus of work. It is AMAZING to work with it. Smooth editing, with just some automation you can achieve almost everything you want.

I really like that you can manage video exactly how you manage audio, for a Reaper user is a natural way to approach video editing. One thing I really missed is a blur filter, I think it's a little bit harder to code. Anyway this is the outcome: https://youtu.be/lwVs5URy5CA

Thanks for this tip! Was not an obvious thing to do.

Why? Simple - because the ability to do simple things in Reaper, means that it can be used in A-for-V work.

Ninty-something per cent of all video work is just cuts and cross-fades. No layering, no colouring, no green-screen, just cuts and fades.

Also, it is a beginning. Ten years ago, Reaper was hardly useable as a DAW, but now? I have never understood why video editors have to be pants at audio and why DAWs are unable to edit video. The commands may be different, but the underlying principles are the same.

And, as Reaper is a non-destructive editor, it is an ideal platform for video.

To add to this good point.

1. I had a video example from a game we are doing sound for yesterday where they had given me multiple videos from different angles of a plane flying over that I had to create a one shot sound for. I used the 2x2 matrix preset to line up 4 videos and reaper put them on the display as 4 quarters on the screen and it was very helpful as I could not only get a sense of what the player might see from any angle but also export examples too that would be helpful to the implementation scene.

2. Already people have started creating presets that can do colour correction etc. We are a long way from a proper editor but I still find it faster to edit in reaper even without visual aids than I do in most linear editors out there.

Best way to add a png file without background is actually using the "blend mode" preset that I shared in this thread (some posts ago...) and applying it on the same png but with a black background. So you have to save your transparent png with a black background and you're done!

For now, you can set your project colorspace to RGBA, and use gfx_mode|=0x10000; in order to do alpha blits from PNGs.

For the next build I'm making it so video processors can override the colorspace in their context (e.g. force RGBA for doing a PNG alpha blit).

pasting that "gfx_mode|=0x10000;" and saving into blank video processor immediately crashed reaper.

Got it working in a simpler project. Progress is good.

Strange, if you can reproduce the crash let me know.

Also adding a new preset: "image overlay". now in pre15.

Probably something to do with the 24GB of video clips in the project.

It was on a png file, on a track within a folder with some other video files. The Video Processor was on the track, not the image item.
