Default REABORN 2 theme (by Nick Moritz)

Hello guys.
As I promised I share with you the result of my painstaking and continuous work. Please welcome the Reaborn Theme v2.

DOWNLOAD PAGE (+ screenshots)

direct download

I worked on it in my spare time. That is why it took a year to finish it. It absorbed the best graphic ideas of modern DAWs and some good ideas from this forum. Actually I wouldn't say its a version of the Reaborn, it rather a new theme, but since it is based on the Reaborn elements, I left the Reaborn name.

Let me share what i planned to improve and add in future:
  • WALTER code optimisation and improvement
  • compact version with low resolution for laptops and PADs
  • additional layers (in style of hardware consoles)
  • several additional tcp-layers
  • layer for external transport panel
  • additional toolbar icons
  • variations of animated knobs

As you can see there is a lot of work and I understand that it can take a year or two to embody it if I will work in spare time.

If you are interested in add-ons - here is you can cursors and track icons.

BTW, several words about features of the theme.
  • Choose the layers with "fancy knobs" words in the name (both TCP and MCP) and set them as default.
  • The theme is designed for modern displays (resolution must be not less then 1920x1080)
  • MCP backgrounds can not be tinted (only for a half). It was made intentionally.
  • Mixer MCPs do not have the compact/hide option
  • The maximum value of your volume fader range should be +8dB (please check the VU Meters/Faders tab in your Preferences)

It's great Nick

Couple of things so far - I am using a laptop, but my screen res is 1920x1200

1) Mcp min height seems too small - master mcp scroll aligned layout bg compresses at low mcp heights. Also, when the scrollbar displays, track IO buttons are cut off at the top. Looks as though it's intended to fit correctly if the scrollbar is visible and have a bit of extra space if not.

2) Tcp space-allocation regarding track names - names are important - they're not prioritised enough imo. Fx chain button should be hidden rather than letting the track name compress to nearly nothing.

Fyi it's now possible with walter to adjust the mcp extmixer sendlist area slot heights (independently of the rest of the extmixer) so that you can have meters below the send label, without being squashed ... improves readability imo.

Though you probably know this already, fancy pan/width images do not work properly with all pan modes - that's really down to JCS to sort out - right-pan knob should be either a dup of the normal pan image, or its own image ... NOT a dup of the width ... makes zero sense

Well within a couple sec I think I can get use to just the top section of MCP being tinted.

THis looks so Pro!! I like it some much better then the newer ones that every one is trying so hard to make look like real consoles.
They are neat but in a work session I find them distracting. This I feel like I'm not distracted by what I'm looking at for hours on end.

Incredible! love the fancy knobs.

One small bug I noticed on OS X. The readout text for volume, pan and width in the TCP looks like it has a vertical offset (see attached).

Thanks for the fantastic theme. Now I have to decide between this and RADO, crap......

OK, let's clear about support.

I need 150 contributors till the end of Septemer. If we dont collect the necesary quantity, those who supported me by buying my products will be receiving updates after each update is ready. Others will receive the updates, after the total plan will be made.

Each sunday I'll update the total number of sales since today.

Thanks!

The amount of work you put into this is amazing.

The buttons and controls are too small and flat for my tastes though.

I'm on 10.6.8 as well. I think I might have installed a font for a different theme, any idea if that's possible and if so, how to undo it? Can't seem to find any info on the matter

You should install the "Calibri" font.

Is there a little arrow to compact/hide the tracks in a folder in the Mixer view? If there is I cannot find it.

Cheers,

Unfortunately for such layers it cannot be done. See, the track_idx image (used as a background) is hided this function for some unknown reason. I think it's some kind of WALTER fault.

You can go to Mouse Modifiers/Mixer control panel/Double-click and set "Mixer: show/hide children of selected tracks" as default action. Now doble-click on the top of tracks (where the light is) to hide/show children. Just did it

Thanks for this theme, Nick. Very nice!

Default Thanks, great work

Reaborn2 is born
This is really Pro looking. Beautiful, soft, defined. Well Done!
Thank you for your hard work in spare time. I now have to test it in working conditions

The first strange point I see is that in mcp, Mute/Solo/TrackLabels are not aligned with folder indentation.

Thanks again!

I think it's pretty sweet. Space is used more efficiently, things are clearer (including color usage), and there is more of a flow to the layouts than the first one, or basically any other custom theme I can think of. It's still a little big for me, so I'm interested in the laptop version.

Right now I still use a modded version of the classic theme because it is the clearest and you can fit all the track buttons in a small vertical track size.

PS This track colouring in the mixer that only does half of it is hot. Exceedingly tasteful.

This theme is the end of the game, Mr. Moritz.

You are the best GUI designer here, no doubt. With Reaborn 2, you put Reaper back on the map again.
Compact, sharp, the perfect amount of saturation, toolbar icons, track icons, very delicate cursors, great and distinct design. You are a dedicated person, and you have talent. My first impression is very positive.
Now, my theme folder will get much free space. Your theme is qualifying as being serious design. For me, there is Nick Moritz here as a theme designer, and then, all the others. Thank you Mr. Moritz!

Awesome work, Nick!

One thing I dislike, though, is that the background for Windows 3D elements are not the same color as the toolbars. It is visually too detracting, at least for me.

I'm still hung up on your older RADO version. It is just awesome! In fact, I just tried ReaBorn 2 with RADO theme editor colors (as per my edits of that), and everything is awesome, except the toolbar buttons are way too bright in contrast now...:

I think you could replace the toolbar background icon by WhiteTie's one from the Imperial theme.

Hmmm.... Though I recognize the big effort put into developing this theme. I still prefer the good old Rado... Specially the earlier versions before the final V4 (excepting the last Rado faders and meters which I dropped into the old rado)... I guess I'm the only one.
