Default Ninjam and guitar rig 3

First off, I am new to Ninjam and so far its pretty cool. What I would like to know is if there a way to use Ninjam and guitar rig without using Reaper? I use Cubase and Nuendo, and since I own both programs I find it kind of silly to pay for Reaper just to use Ninjam. I would much rather use Ninjam standalone along with Guitar Rig stand alone, but I am lost on how to set it up.

Personally, I bought Reaper just for NINJAM. For me, it's worth the ease of use.

NINJAM reads and writes from an ASIO driver of your choice. Same, I expect, with Guitar Rig. Generally, this means a hardware device.

What you need to do, though is:

[hw in] -> [Guitar Rig] -> {magic}
{magic} -> [NINJAM] -> [hw out]

One way to do this is to use JACK for Windows (or Mac):

{in Guitar Rig: in from [JackRouter]; out to [JackRouter] }
{in NINJAM: in from [JackRouter]; out to [JackRouter] }
{in Jack: [hw in] -> [Guitar Rig] }
{in Jack: [Guitar Rig] -> [NINJAM] }
{in Jack: [NINJAM] -> [hw out] }

Yes, it's more complicated - but who said magic was easy? JackRouter is the easy bit. JACK itself can take a little bit of getting right.

See this post for more details but skip the "-X winmme" (as it'll eat your MIDI ports and you probably don't want that):

Just updated the post with a clearer (I hope!) explanation.
