Default Lag/rehearsing..

ok,heres the thing,is it possible to use ninjam/reaper,to practice with my brother? or is lag just erm gonna kill it?

we both live in England, just diff cities,we both trying the ninjam thing.
now when i say ONE into my mic and he says TWO as soon as he hears me say ONE..the gap is something like 15/20 seconds??!!

trying to rehearse together > he plays a song on piano,i start to sing on top,i get to the bridge, start singing the bridge but i hear him playing the verse still...for about 15/20 seconds.

so is it impossible to rehearse on ninjam? are we doing something wrong? any suggestions? or explanations? or even a link to some downloadable thing that is better than ninjam?

I don't know what's happened to all the threads but there was one in the last week or so about this.

You can make music like this. There's nothing better than NINJAM for what it's for.

Fundamentally, NINJAM works with two concepts: Beats per Interval (BPI) and Beats per Minute (BPM). Each client receives a feed from the other clients and starts playing it, aligned to the Interval. This is so that people from across the world, with sometimes huge network latency, can play together.

If you're playing on a LAN - or even on a good internet connection with stable, sub-50ms pings - you don't need NINJAM. One free alternative is llcon.

i did try llcon but its worse than ninjam
sadly it seems rehearsing via the web is impossible
ninjam is possibly the best there is.and lets be honest..its shit
it does one thing...."hey lets jam on a 12 bar"..and thats it..CRAP
shame really, but there u go..thats great for many out there but im way beyond that,i hoped it would do more, sadly thats it..the name says it all ninJAM..
thnx for responding tho

You could get an Internet2 connection. I understand the latency and jitter on that network is fine. If, like most of the planet, you don't have that option, you'll live with them .

Soundjack is another option I've got to look at...
http://www.soundjack.eu/

Whole load of research material available, too, if you're interested...

http://svn.ibr.cs.tu-bs.de/theses/ku...n/nmp-cacm.pdf

This one looks particularly hopeful... (though I'm not sure how realistic it actually is):

(I'm still trying to find more details on it)

I'm doing this in the hope I can use it for my MSc...
