"Funny thing is many of us have made pretty good money with that pile o'sh*t. I take it you haven't"
With pretty much anything but ProTools, yes I have ( Cubase, Nuendo, and Live come to mind, Reaper I use for my own personal projects as clients don't know about it and usually like to hear familiar names ), and for the last 10 years or so... And since I'm still entitled to my opinion, I'll stick to it.
I'm sure it works for you and it seems to work for other people as well, but after trying it last year to see what I was missing, I'm reassured I'm not missing anything and that it is in fact an outdated counter-intuitive piece of software and hardware sold for an outrageous price. The control surfaces/mixing boards ( Icon and Venue ) are very nice though, and if I could integrate an Icon with Cubase or Reaper flawlessly, I'd probably get one in a heartbeat. But the software... Sorry, but you couldn't convince me to use it instead of pretty much anything else, especially Live or Reaper.

Fair Enough. But back to the topic, Kenny's videos are stellar and I don't mind the fast talking. I actually prefer it. I can't stand watching tutorials when the instructor talks too slow. I'm a very impatient guy and I find Kenny's "speed" perfect so I don't get bored. LOL!

Agreed on that. And it's cool to get 12 hours worth of tutorials and only pay for about 4 of them...

Ah! HEHEHE! No, I'm not asking for these to be free, at least it's not a personal goal, as I already paid for them, and am very happy with the purchase. I was thinking more in terms of a marketing strategy. Camel Audio does it for Alchemy (as I mentioned, go to YouTube and check out these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwC4s...x=0&playnext=1, but please don't do so if you don't have the money to spend), and our Swedish Propellerheads friends do the same.
As a marketing strategy this work very well, take it from me, I own both Alchemy and Reason/Record, mainly because of the demonstration videos. I am really happy with both products, but I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't get a quick video introduction to illustrate their power.
So, really, not asking for free stuff from Mr. Gioia, just hinting to the overlords at Cockos that spending money to have videos created at this level of quality is a great way to market excellent software.

Hi kerryg,
Yes, we do provide educational discounts to schools and learning institutes. Just contact us through the form on our site on the "Contact Us" page or call in during normal business hours and we will be glad to see what we can set up for you.
With regards to the "state" vs "province" problem you had for Canada, there must have been an anomaly or problem loading the page. When you choose 'Canada' as the country of origin it should remove the selection option for "state" and replace it with a message that says "the selected country doesn't require 'state' field"
We've tested it and it is working correctly for Safari and Firefox on Mac + PC. We also regularly get orders from Canada. Im not trying to say you didnt have a problem or that you did something wrong either. All I can think of is there was perhaps an error when loading the page or updating the menus when you made your country selection. We havent had reports of this problem during the time you posted your message so it doesnt appear to be anything global.
In any case, thank you for taking note of your problem and letting us know. In the future, dont hesitate to contact us directly if you have any issues. We are here to help and appreciate your support and business.
All the best,
Asa

Thanks for your response, asadoyle -
yes, that seems likely to have been the problem, the "state" field just didn't refresh. Thought it was unusual - OSX 10.4.11/latest version of Safari/dual G5 (PPC) if that helps track it down. Anyway, my own transaction processed fine and I've been enjoying my downladed video very much.
I'll pass your contact info to the administration at our school. It's a challenge to get Reaper a significant place in a curriculum already jam-packed with ProTools and Logic certification programs, but I always find time for at least an overview, and it seems to have an effect - I often have students thanking me later for turning them on to it. Tools like this video directly help establish or reinforce Reaper's validity in the curriculum.

Thanks, I shall. The real hurdle here is practical. We'd fail in our diligence to our students if we didn't teach them ProTools - there's simply not the faintest question of suddenly ditching it, so many studios simply expect fluency in it as a precondition. There have even been discussions about whether or not we have enough time to also pursue Logic - the answer has been "yes, but we'll have to cram them hard to get both platforms up to proficiency". Then there's the obvious need for at least passing hands-on exposure to tools like Ableton, Reason, Melodyne... and I teach them fourteen 4-hour classes in harmony, theory and chart reading too, there's no question of shorting them on that.
We've got a pretty full dance card and a finite curriculum to hit our goals in; getting Reaper in there at all is an achievement in and of itself.

A video package as part of your curriculum for home study will probably serve those folks well.
With the basics Protools provides, they'll probably appreciate the flexibility of Reapers feature set. You can never know too little in this regard. Reaper may very well provide a solution to urgent problems we all face in daily studio routine.
I certainly know that providing a bunch of variations of stem mixdowns is a task I'd rather perform with anything but Protools these days. Same for microtuning, same for drum editing, same for dialog editing(oh yeah!), same for fx editing.
If you want to help your students be more flexible, teach them how to exchange sessions and deliver formats. ProConvert and AATranslator would need to be part of that. Reaper offers flatfile export, just like Protools does, and that's important as almost any mixing gig is done with flat files, especially those in Protools. Nobody loves plugin conflicts less than PT folks.

Wow, wow, and....wow! Yep, that's right, I'm a fanboy
I was excited to see that Kenny was doing this after seeing his other vids on Groove3 (absolutely LOVED the mixing pop videos he did). His quick, articulate and straight to the point delivery style are perfect for this application! Please ignore the requests to talk slower in future videos. That is my problem with many other tuts; listening to some guy drone on in a slow, monotone voice until I fall asleep. Your pace is perfect imo. Keeps it fun Perhaps you could add subtitles though
I've been waiting for a comprehensive video on Reaper for years and you nailed it! Thanks for that. The timing was perfect too as I was just about to give up on this DAW. You've rekindled my interest. Reading forum posts are fun and the manual and ReaMix truly are superb but this video series is long overdue I believe. Please keep going with it...

I received my physical copy yesterday and was glad to see that the Navigation series was included on my DVD whereas my digital download from day two did not include this and was added as the sample video instead of the Introduction video.

Are you saying that there are additional tutorials on the physical product? I received mine yesterday but haven't looked at it because I have the download version installed and have been working with it for about 3 weeks. I assumed that the DVD would be exactly same - am I incorrect?

I made the Navigation video a week after these were released. It just didn't feel "complete" without it.
If you have an earlier downloaded version (the DVD should have everything) you can simply download it again to get the extra video.
I purposely made the Navigation video the free sample so that everyone would have a chance to see it.
Thanks for the support.

That's possible, I downloaded my copy right after it came out and no 'navigation' video.
Maybe Kenny can clear this up next time he stops by this thread.

Maybe just forget about the physical media and sell continuously updated e-versions, lol.
I bought Nicholas' paper version and it is getting more stale by the week, sigh.

I bought the paper version too, will probably arrive tomorrow, and it's already too old when it arrives.
Maybe you should just print one chapter, read it, then print the next etc.
