Default Who I am - REAPER and Emvoice

Hello,

this song was composed entirely in REAPER with Emvoice singer Jay.

I think this is one of the most realistic singing performances I've ever heard with VST singers (far from being undistinguishable still); the song was composed from scratch using directly Jay as interactive aid to lay down melodies and lyrics.

The idea: the singer is representing mankind talking to the Earth and nature in general, kind of apologizing for all the bad things he's doing.

Of course, if somebody thinks the song has potential and wants to help with the vocals applications are accepted, as well as constructive feedback.

Here is the link (still not final, mostly done though).

Thanks,
Mario

Wow! I don't know which is more impressive the emvoice or the song and arrangement you came up with...
The vocal is amazing but you put in the setting and lyrics that really make it work. Nice work and another example of why this is my favorite area of the forums.

Thank you for listening and for your kind words.

The ability to have a singer that follows exactly your directions is a huge help in song composition. You can see how now a real singer can get a precise guide on the original author's intention just by listening to this version (with the ability to steer creatively of course).

I'm not able to record often, so this was a kind of godsend for me.

To be honest, I think that this version could even be released as it is, with all of its obvious expression and production limitations.

I recently did some projects composing using Band in a Box, together with a wonderful singer. It was great that she mostly does the contrary of what I expected .

I see Sometimes I like the comparison of different minds, perspectives and creative points of views. Sometimes just not

Very fascinating Mario, I'd never heard of vocal like this. Nice arrangement and easy listening.

Holy, as I was listening to this I was trying to figure out who Jay was, thinking that Emvoice was a REAPER user. I was like, "good voice, he doesn't need to process it so heavily with autotune"... then it hit me.

This is really quite impressive. I guess the downside is that Jay could literally be the lead singer for thousands of bands which might become a little odd if they are all on top 40 radio.

That aside, this is are really well written song. Engaging, lots of small and interesting details creeping in and out, great arrangement and melodically and thematically compelling. Very 'period inspired' and that is a good thing.

Well done man, nice one.

I'm not overly fond with any of the voices except for the original (non tuned) Lucy. I did a few songs the first week I had it, and found it a bit too addicting, but like any singer you have to figure out what notes/vowels/consonants sound good with their voice and work around that:

Eventually Pytorch/Magenta/etc. machine learning technology will pull it all the way out of the Uncanny Valley. Most people I let listen to the songs on my Soundcloud account had a bit of cognitive dissonance when I told them I programmed the vocal, that "she" wasn't real.

Impressive, but it's very limited expression wise.
You just wait for a crescendo or something, but....
