Another question:

Default FX in Master channel

Is there a way to do the FX in the master channel the same way like for the normal tracks with the FXMenu?

Do you have more than one surface ?

Seems like there's another influence here.

Ok, please make sure there are NO Shift actions anywhere in any FX files, etc.

Also please post the entire contents of your .zon file, we will eventually get this sorted.

You have a Zone named "FocusedFXParam".

There is also a CSI action named FocusedFXParam.

It's not a good idea to name Zones the same as CSI actions, although I'm not sure you can't get away with it in this case. Anyway, it should be renamed.

Once the Shift (Read) is latched on (light on), what happens if you tap it once quickly, does it go off ?

No I mean do you have the Shift action redefined in an FX like this:

Code:
Zone "SomeFX"
        BadIdeaForAnFXButton Shift
ZoneEnd
If so, remove them all, Shift should only be defined once, usually in "Buttons|" or equivalent.

that zone is that action you added not that long ago where you just click on an FX parameter on any plugin and it maps to a control (in my case fader 1). you know the one where FX zones are not needed. i dont use it much at all so i could take it out.and no the light does not go off on a quick press or regular press

once i enter that fx zone i can click on any fx parameter and map it without having a zone for it. do i not have that set up right ? it does work though. but no worries on that one problem at a time .that another day. like i said i barely use it

Ok, probably a good idea to rename it to something else, just to state away from action names.

DOH !!

Code:
Widget Read
        Press 90 4a 7f
        FB_TwoState 90 4a 7f 90 4a 00
WidgetEnd
won't cut it, you also need a release message like this:

Code:
Widget Read
        Press 90 4a 7f 90 4a 00
        FB_TwoState 90 4a 7f 90 4a 00
WidgetEnd
AND the widget actually has to generate a release message.

Just check input monitoring to make sure the widget you use generates BOTH press and release messages.

Let me know what you find.

hey Geoff i just checked both buttons in the edit window (the read button and the actual shift button)

read button is 1.000000
90 4a 00

shift button is 1.000000
0.000000
is this why the shift and other modifier buttons arent staying lit ?

It's why they ARE saying lit.

When you press the button, CSI goes into Shift mode.

It in now waiting for a release to go back to normal.

You now release the button, but, uh-oh, NO release message is generated.

CSI is still waiting patiently in Shift mode, and it forever stays there because it will never receive a release because the button doesn't generate release messages, which are crucial for Shift.

You need a button that generates press AND release messages for modifiers.

[edit]
Or if you just want a toggle only version (with lights) you could just use this sneaky trick - creds to @MixMonkey

Code:
Read Shift [ 1 0 ]
Write Option [ 1 0 ]
Trim Control [ 1 0 ]
Latch Alt [ 1 0 ]
If that works, put back the original widgets and off you go

ok so the read button stays lit because i didnt have a release message in the mst.the actual shift button (which is my problem) doesnt stay lit because obviously from the edit window read out is not the right kind of button to support and on/off light ? is this right ? and why would Icon choose buttons for the modifoers that dont generate press and release message which is crucial for modifiers ?? ugh they are the experts they should know that right lol ? anyway thanks so much for your help. i can live with it. ill get lost at times in modifier mode but i have an emergency home zone button and a toolbar button to refresh the surface. thanks again Geoff.sry for all that. if i knew to just check the buttons in the edit window it couldve avoided all this .im learning...slowly...but im learning

No worries, what got us off track was this post https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...postcount=8039 where it looked like the modifiers were generating release messages.

Sorted now, all good.

Yes, I wondered, so I started from a fresh EuCon.zon from the latest beta.

In the fresh copy, Select works, and doesn't light the Rec LED. But RecordArm is of course triggering Track Record.

Amending the code to turn the Rec Button to switch the automation modes now shows the behaviour I describe.

Here is my Fresh EuCon file built on your latest.

Code:
Select| TrackUniqueSelect

RecordArm| TrackUniqueSelect
RecordArm| CycleTrackAutoMode Display| [ 0 1 3 2 4 5 ]
Attached is full file.

No - here are two versions of the same ZON file. The one with the Pipes works, the one without does not.

Doesn't Work.
Code:
Zone "Home"
	IncludedZones

	IncludedZonesEnd
ZoneEnd

Zone "Geoff"
	SelectedTrackNavigator
	Fader1 TrackVolume
ZoneEnd
Does Work.
Code:

Feature Request?

Perhaps there is already a way to do this, but is it possible to have a Reaper Action become a Virtual Widget so we may trigger a CSI console action from a Reaper Action, which of course could be a Key-Command or even a Marker etc.

Something like 16 Actions [ CSI Virtual Widget 1-16 ] that support two-states. In our Zone file we would then have.
Code:
Zone "VirtualWidgets_ReaperActions"
      ReaperVirtualWidget1 GoZone "EditorZone"
ZoneEnd
Obviously would need to build in an infinite loop watcher incase we had a CSI action calling a Reaper action which triggered the same virtual widget :-)

Yes, that's a side effect of having to execute TrackUniqueSelect first -- you could just do this:

Code:
RecordArm| CycleTrackAutoMode Display| [ 0 1 3 2 4 5 ]
This will now work only if a Track is selected first, not sure what will happen with the lights

I am starting to get a complex about posting too much in a row - I think it is mainly because it seems the majority of the CSI users are not in my time zone :-) Anyway, here is a question that doesn't talk about ZON files.

Now that I have the basics of a working surface integration between various devices, its time to start working on how I use Reaper effectively. First up is simulating a typical large console mix process where you would tear through your hundred or so channels and perform the first round of remedial processing. This is always fastest using a console that has a "Super Channel" where you can select any channel and bring that to a full channel strip for adjustment.

I have that now thanks to you all and CSI. But I don't see how best to make Reaper handle this. For the selected channels FX parameters to be shown on my devices, I need to open the chosen FX window and make sure its focused. There isn't a clear way of doing this easily via scripts. I have found many scripts to do some parts of this but I feel that this some something a lot of you clever folks have already resolved?

The goal, would be able to be working on an EQ in Slot 2 on Channel 1, and then move to Channel 2 (by surface Select| or Keyboard). The currently floating EQ would be hidden and Channel 2s Slot Two would be shown and focused.

I typically set up a default channel strip with an inactive processing chain, saturation/EQ/Comp as a default, and so can just make them active as needed - but the more processing all have common slots.

Would love to hear your experiences and solutions to this issue.

Cheers!

I wish I understood the logic behind why executing a "TrackUniqueSelect" action makes the Rec Light turn on though? :-)

This has resolved the issue and now performs correctly. Did something change under the hood?

Hey Geoff, this may have slipped pass due to the high volume of post-traffic at present, or perhaps its the chocolate eggs.. But i am stuck on a point that I haven't been able to resolve in days. I would be grateful for your masterful eye.

No worries, you are exactly right, I'm GMT - 3 (in the summer) and you're GMT + 10, that's all

I use exactly that workflow with Console1 as the "Super Channel", just be sure "Auto Map FX" is checked in the surface setup:

Code:
Zone "Home"
	OnTrackSelection	GoZone "Channel"
	OnTrackSelection MapSelectedTrackFXToWidgets
	DisplayFX SetShowFXWindows
	Mode ToggleMapSelectedTrackFX
	Preset GoZone "Home"
	ChannelLeft TrackBank "-1"
	ChannelRight TrackBank "1"
	Shape ToggleLearnMode
	Option+Volume FocusedFXParam
ZoneEnd

Zone "Channel"
	SelectedTrackNavigator
	InputMeterLeft TrackOutputMeter "0"
	InputMeterRight TrackOutputMeter "1"
	OutputMeterLeft TrackOutputMeter "0"
	OutputMeterRight	TrackOutputMeter "1"
	Volume TrackVolume
	Control+Volume TrackPanWidth	"1"
	Shift+Volume TrackPan "0"
	Option+Volume FocusedFXParam
	Mute TrackMute
	Solo TrackSolo
ZoneEnd
some FX Zone fits that play along:

Code:
Zone "VST: UAD Fairchild 660 (Universal Audio, Inc.)" "F660"
	SelectedTrackNavigator
	Threshold FXParam 2 "Thresh"
	Character FXParam 7 "Output"
	Drive FXParam 0 "Meter"
	Attack FXParam 9 "Headroom"
	Release FXParam 1 "Input"
	Ratio FXParam 3 "Time Const"
	Toggle+Invert+Compressor	FXParam 11 "Bypass"
	Parallel FXParam 12 "Wet"
ZoneEnd

Zone "VST: UAD Pultec EQP-1A (Universal Audio, Inc.)" "EQP1A"
	SelectedTrackNavigator
	HiGain FXParam "7" "HF Atten"
HiFrequency FXParam "6" "HF Atten Freq"
	HiMidGain FXParam "4" "HF Boost"
	HiMidFrequency FXParam "3" "High Freq"
	HiMidQ FXParam "5" "HF Q"
	LoMidGain FXParam "2" "LF Atten"
	LoMidFrequency FXParam "0" "Low Freq"
	LoGain FXParam "1" "LF Boost"
	LoFrequency FXParam "0" "Low Freq"
	Toggle+Invert+Equalizer	FXParam "10" "Bypass"
	Parallel FXParam "11" "Wet"

	ChannelRight FXParam "0" "Low Freq" [ 0.0 0.33 0.66 1.0 ]
	ChannelLeft FXParam "0" "Low Freq" [ 1.0 0.66 0.33 0.0 ]
ZoneEnd
Now when a Track is selected any FX that are mapped (EQ, compressor, etc.) automatically show up on the Console1 -- as shown in the videos.

The RecordArm light is acting exactly like the Select light because TrackUniqueSelect is providing the appropriate feedback to whatever widget it is mapped to, in this case BOTH the RecordArm and Select buttons.

:-) thanks Geoff.
Yes, in addition any Zone that ends in a pipe will ONLY get instantiated inside an IncludedZone, it will never be instantiated stand-alone, UNLESS it indicates the actual number of instances -- from MCU.zon:

Code:
Zone "Send|1-8"
	SelectedTrackNavigator
	DisplayUpper| TrackSendNameDisplay
	TrackTouch+DisplayUpper|	TrackSendVolumeDisplay
	Mute| TrackSendMute
	Fader| TrackSendVolume
	TrackTouch+Fader| TrackSendVolume
	FaderTouch| TrackTouch
ZoneEnd
There will be 8 Sends Zones -- Send1, Send2, ..., Send8 instantiated.

I know it's a bit subtle, probably the weakest part of the syntax, if I had it to do over, would have tried to do a better job on that part

See the post a couple back about the Console1 and SelectedTrackNavigator, that might be more what you're looking for in this case.
