Default Reaper 4.78x64 & Windows 10

Hi all,
I'm thinking about updating my laptop to Windows 10 before Windows 7 becomes obsolete.

However, can anyone advise if I'm likely to have issues trying to setup Reaper 4.78x64 , which was my last last update for my license, before it ran out.

I'm not a heavy user and am comfortable with this version, which is way more powerful than I'd ever need, so no point in upgrading to the latest version.

If there are going to be major issues with trying to get this version of Reaper to work with Windows 10, then I guess I'll have to forget about it. However, if it is able to work well in the Windows 7 compatibility mode, on Windows 10, then I'll set it all up again.

I guess this question has been done before, and yes I've looked through this section for past threads but this is a little more specific, being an older version of the program.

So any suggestions, thoughts would be appreciated.

Ron

I don't suppose anybody is still using Reaper 4.x, but many are using the most recent Reaper version with Windows 7 for good reasons.

Hi Ron,

I still have 4.78 x64 installed here on Windows 10 64-bit (besides version 5.x) and I can't remember that I had any issues with using version 4 on Windows 10 (before switching completely to 5).
In addition, I just started 4.78 up again to do a quick test playback of a demo project and it works fine. As a side note: no Windows 7 compatibility mode necessary here for running 4.78 on Win 10.

I'd say it's more likely that there might perhaps be Windows 10 compatibility issues with certain 3rd-party plugins or hardware (audio interface, USB-MIDI controller/keyboard, etc.). So, if you haven't already, I'd recommend to double-check Windows 10 compatibility for those things in advance, as well.

EDIT: If you're using SWS Extensions, 2.7.0 seems to be the latest SWS version working with Reaper 4.78 - available on the SWS Extensions page under 'Additional downloads'.

Thanks for your input Solger, I didn't want stuff up a clean installation of Win10 with programs that wouldn't work. too many left over bits that cause issues later on.

Cheers Ron
