Default output device names for Echo Indigo

Hello,

I'm a newly registered user and am looking at Reaper for the first time. I thought I would pass along this minor bug. I have an Echo Indigo audio card (PCMCIA card) which has 4 virtual outputs. Windows and N-Track see the correct unique names for the 4 virtual outputs (e.g., Indigo io 1-2 virtual out). But Reaper just lists the same name 4 times in the device list box (Echo indigo io).

I'm attaching screen shots to clarify.

Hi Gary,

Welcome aboard. Try changing the Audio System selection in REAPER to Wave Out instead of Kernel Streaming.

Cheers,

Malcolm.

Thanks for the very quick reply Malcolm. You're right...Wave Out shows the unique names as expected. So then, a newbie question :-) What's the technical difference between Wave Out and Kernel Streaming? And between Wave Out, Kernel Streaming, and ASIO, what would be the preferred order for best performance? And would that be the same if ASIO is just an ASIO layer on top of WDM (e.g., ASIO4ALL)?

ASIO > WaveOut > Kernel Streaming for performance. Reaper works the best by far with ASIO, and I think people usually have good results with asio4all.

Thanks Shane. ASIO it is then. I always had trouble with the Indigo ASIO driver under n-track, so stuck with WDM. But I'll give it a go with Reaper.

Initial tests with ASIO looked good, but haven't had much chance yet to spend much time -- got swamped at work over the last couple of weeks. I hope to spend more time with it over the next few weeks (on vacation).
