Default Item Pan Knob

Wouldn't it be nice to have the option to show a per item pan knob (near the volume knob) for quick panning of single items? With visual feedback on the peaks of course when it acts on stereo items.

Meanwhile, you can use envelope pan. A simple key shortcut to toggle it, and you have the envelope line in the middle of the item, like a "handle" to pan.

+1 for me

waiting for the feature to be implemented (if ever) you can insert a PAN plugin into ITEM FX (there are many free, e.g. Panipulator or freeG)

Especially useful for visual feedback of mono items panning which graphically isn't indicated in any way

Possible to have a script to
  • Declare pan_amt variable
  • Set item properties: pan
  • Get item properties: pan (set pan_amt)
  • append pan_amt to the item name
Perhaps?

Until here this script should do what you want

Code:
newvalue = -0.1 -- set the value to add

 selitem = reaper.GetSelectedMediaItem( 0, 0 )

 take = reaper.GetActiveTake( selitem )

 pan_value = reaper.GetMediaItemTakeInfo_Value( take, "D_PAN")

 reaper.SetMediaItemTakeInfo_Value( take, "D_PAN", pan_value + newvalue )
Here newvalue = -0.1 means the script adds +10%L pan.
Eg. if you run the script 3 times your item will be panned 30% left.

You can create a version for 10%R pan: newvalue = 0.1
Or you can pan a different amount by changing the number. Eg. newvalue = 0.2 for 20%R pan.

P.S.: script is not mine, someone has made it for me but sadly I can't remember who. If I find it out I will give credit.

Edit: for setting a take to C, 100%L or 100%R (regardless of current panning) there are SWS actions that do this.

Anyway.. I'd rather have an item pan knob than 5 toolbar buttons for panning (or 7 buttons if I wanted +/-1 panning too)
