What video format(s) does Reaper support?
I'm working as a sound designer for games and members of the dev team send me mp4 video clips of animated characters or props that I need to import into Reaper and put sound to.
Now, I get the vague "Could not import 1 of 1 items!" error message whenever I try to import a video file into my fresh installation of Reaper. I've reexported the mp4 files to different formats with VLC and tried importing those into Reaper with no success - I still get the same error message and it's quite frustrating. What is a surefire way to get video import to work? I.e. what format should I request the movie clips to be in (or reexport the clips to) and what (if any) exensions do I need to install into Reaper? |

For Reaper 64-bit you need VLC 64-bit, which is not the default download on the site.
Usually that's all you need

You mean I need to use VLC 64 bit to convert the video clips before I import them into Reaper?
If so, what are the exact codecs/formats/settings needed in VLC for the converted movie clip to be compatible with Reaper? |

Ok, I already had the 64 bit version of VLC installed but I uninstalled it and reinstalled it just to be sure, and after you wrote about Reaper using VLC's codecs, I also restarted Reaper and I think that's what did the trick - because now I can import the mp4 files just fine! Thanks!
