Default Selecting notes or items

Hi, I use a MacBook Pro with a bluetooth track pad and I can't seem to select anything by simply pulling a box around the items as I would in Pro Tools. A very simple thing to ask but if I can't easily see how to do this then I may have to go back to pro tools. In pro tools there are some buttons that change the state of the mouse arrow, I can change to all sorts of things but not the selection arrow. There is clearly an action for this but I am unable to see it.

Welcome to the Reaper forums!

By default, Marquee selection is mapped to a right drag: https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#GIBt8AjdwEM

If you prefer, it's also possible to map it to left drag instead via the Mouse Modifiers: [Track] [left drag] - Marquee Select. More info here: https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#07DxHufRBUM
The MIDI Editor itself has separate Mouse Modifiers if you also want to map Marquee Select to [MIDI piano roll] [left drag] there: https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#ULOUfyGFdb4

As a side note: (on the macOS version) there's an option available under 'Preferences > Editing Behavior > Mouse' to 'Emulate right-click via Control + Left Click', which might be interesting in general, as well.

Brilliant mate, many thanks. Meanwhile I found another function to make me stay AUTOMATIC Color/Icon/Layout. I won't be going back to PT ever. I'll have a another look, I get blinded by all the functions.
