Default Song 51 (Russian Folk)

By the way, if anyone can think of a better name, feel free

https://soundcloud.com/albert-mckay/song-51

This is my final mix. I'm still not happy with it; specifically the reverb.

Thanks, that actually makes me a lot happier.

but I've already done an alternative.

And I'm not sure which one to choose. In the first, it seems the accordion is too dry, and everything else is too wet.

In the new one, I don't know. I think the new one is better.

At the moment I feel like I don't want to show my music to any record labels or producers. I feel I first need to write the music I feel I'm capable of, but maybe that will never happen.

I think I should enjoy listening to my own music as much as I enjoy Bach and Vivaldi.

Also, I'm curious what you guys think of the album art.

I think the album art is quite cool. I think I also listened to the earlier mix.

I think the accordion is arguably still too dry. I sometimes think too much.

In the clarinet around 0:48 - 1:07 the tone seems to be adversely affected by it's reverb.

What reverb do you use? Extensive control over early reflections is pretty important and I like the Freeverb 3 Hibiki plugin because it gives a lot of control while being very easy to use.

Another excellent plugin for manipulating depth - especially blending close and room mic'd parts in a mix is 'proximity' from TDR.

Mr. PC (or Al) - you don't seem to get it yet. Your music is very well done, complex and nuanced, and we all keep telling you so. An artist is very often not satisfied with their work, but that really doesn't matter - what matters is what we think Go ahead and submit to some libraries, you might like the results.

btw - for some reason, the title "not forgotten" (ne zabyli) comes to mind for this tune.

I would just add : Fabulous work !!!

And... if you want another title, then may I selfishly (and respectfully) suggest : 52 ....
... which was the number of the house I was born in (I said it was selfish !) !!
I guess you could say ; that's how much I enjoyed the track !

Best

Wow, thanks guys. I'm working on 52 right now, actually.

I always number my songs, so that later the names can be changed to whatever, but I have a track record of what song is what. So this was the 51st song I've written, since I decided to start numbering.

I'm really glad you like my music; I think I will try showing it then.

Ponk, do you speak Russian? I actually wrote this just as I was returning from Russia.

Hamish; should I automate the ERs? I'm finding I don't actually like the sounds of ERs at all, but I'm afraid of everything sounding too separated without them. I use Altiverb 6.

I've listened to a few highly regarded spacial plug-ins, and I can't stand any of them. I feel like they make everything sound plastic.
On the other hand, Altiverb makes things sound watery (I know these metaphoric adjectives don't really translate).

Here's a newer mix, which I haven't yet replaced the soundcloud version with. I'm still hesitant to do it. I have more ER on the accordion and less on everything else, basically.

When dry, the bassoon has this incredible 'bounce' which I'm in love with, and I'm hoping isn't lost.

Btw, the clarinet is actually about a dozen clarinets layered together.

The accordion is more 'conventionally' placed in the mix now, I'm not saying its better necessarily, but that is what I meant. I think it's probably more generally listenable like that.

I noticed you tagged the piece with 'independent'. Is the bassoon from the KHSO pack for independence? All the double reed in that pack sound great.
