Default MIDI Loop recording - separate Takes?

Hi-

I have Loop points linked to time selection enabled, and I'm recording several MIDI passes while looping in the Record: input mode with FIP on. When I'm finished and save the files I get my separate Items, but REAPER sees them as one Take. AFAICT, I then have to Implode them to take advantage of Next/Previous Take, etc.

If I use auto-punch within the Loop points, I get separate Takes, which is what I want.

Is there a way to get separate Takes in the above scenario without using auto-punch?

Thanks-

-Susan

... confirmed here.

Turn off FIPM (temporarily). And there's a "Toggle free item positioning" Action to which you can assign a Shortcut.

Hi DarkStar-

Thanks for the quick reply. That works fine. Is there a reason loop recording in FIPM handles it this way, if you know, or do you think it's a bug? I can't see any advantage to having all of the Items contained in a single Take, but I could well be missing something.

Thanks again-

I can't think of any advantage, as they currently end up as independent items in FIPM.

It seems to me that it would be better for the recorded takes to be in a single clip.

Default Same with Audio

Just to follow up: The same thing happens with Audio recording. It's not a big deal, more a curiosity for me (but I'd just as soon not have to remember to disable FIPM!)

For those who use this, could you please explain the advantage of having separate Items recorded in a loop treated as single Take?

Thanks!
