Default External MIDI Start and Stop commands

Hi there,

We make a simple MIDI controller that sends MIDI Start and Stop - no clock.

I cannot seem to get Reaper to start and stop playback from these commands. My Faderport sends MIDI Notes to start and stop rather than realtime messages. So does Touch DAW.

I have tried many configurations and have been using reaper for 3 or 4 years but no luck.

Has anyone run into/solved this issue?

Thanks!

Reaper actions (such as start and stop) can only be triggered by Midi CC commands (after enabling "Control" in the midi device's setting to have it convert Midi Control messages to Reaper Control Path message.)

If you want o use other Midi messages you need to

- receive the Midi stream in a track
- use (e.g.) ReaPack -> Midi Convert To CC to convert the message to a CC message
- use MidiToReaControl Path to convert the Midi CC message to a Reaper Control message.

Edit: "Midi Convert To CC" does not handle Midi "start" / "Stop" commands. It would have to be enhanced to do this, or a dedicated JSFX script could be done.
