Default I Need A Lover

I've been working on a cover of Mellencamps "I Need A Lover", here's what I've got so far on the intro part:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/z4fgxoc0qi...NAL01.wav?dl=0

I want to thank a couple of Reaper users for their contributions.

Soli Deo Gloria provided the piano track and Abraham Liftin' provided the drum track. I think they both did an outstanding job.

Thanks Glenn and Abe.

The drums sounded great out of the box, no need to do anything, very cool. Thanks.

Got another bounceback on an email I sent you, PM'd you on that.

Working on getting the vocals recorded, then I'll come back and tweak things on the intro. (But not the drum track. )

Cheers!

Sounding good so far

I am not familiar with any Mellencamp stuff so I looked this song up on the interwebs.

Are you going to take your cover all the way and add some vocals or are you leaving it as a shorter instrumental?

Either way, it is a great exercise to do and lots of fun, and it ain't that easy either...

cheers

Thanks and yes I'll be adding vocals, female vocalist by the way.

I'm working on getting the tracks done for the vocals now. Once I have that, then I'll go back and tweak things on the intro and add all the other bells and whistles I have in mind for this.

I´d like to join the other users in my appreciation of the mix so far : it sounds just great for my taste! It´s clean, everything sits nicely yet it has character. Very, very good job. And of course, Abraham´s drums were a pleasure to work with, a tight and solid base without a single fissure. Congratulations to you too, Abraham.

Toleolu, you´re doing an excellent work, really. Looking forward to listening to the finished version of this song and forthcoming projects. Thanks again for your trust.

You spelled his name wrong. It's toleolu. It's Hawaiian for "cheats musicians out of money"

(he knows I'm kidding)

Here's a quick take on what I'm thinking for the verses. Drums, piano, bass, and acoustic guitar.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/byqryeu4w2...Acous.wav?dl=0

Once again, not a final mix. Mic'd the acoustic, no effects.

Thanks

Sounds pretty good to me! What kind of acoustic and what mic?

Thanks

Taylor acoustic and a Sennheiser mic, forget the model number.

The acoustics in the man cave suck, for the final mix I'll be re-recording the acoustic part at Pipelines studio.

Just trying to come up with a track for the singer.

Ha! Good one! I could name a tune or two that I had the wrong lyrics to and some I made up some lyrics to.

Even without the vocal this already has a nice feel to it. Great foundation to build on.

Thanks T, appreciate that.

If I didn't have someone in mind to do the vocals, I'd be hitting you up to see if Peter Wittaker would be interested in doing it. Just commented on your post about his latest cover. Really impressed with him and your sons work.

Thanks Jorgen, shouldn't be too much longer now.

That is if I can get myself to stop tweaking and just say, "That's good enough".
