Default Axiom 61 crashes Reaper?

I'm completely new to the world of music. Never played an instrument or thought much about it until recently, so I decided to start with an inexpensive MIDI player.

I have the M-Audio Axiom 61 and am trying to configure it with
Reaper v1.03 - September 1 2006.

The problem is when Reaper detects a signal from my Axiom 61, Reaper crashes.

I've gone through the help and configuration files a bit and believe settings are probably correct (again, I'm new and don't have an idiots guide for this yet).

My settings:
Laptop Dell XPS M170 2.26Ghz, 2 GB / Windows XP Pro, SP2.

Not sure how well these attachments will appear - this system restricts image height to 220.

Hi there,

It's a bit hard to make out from the small images you have attached, but it appears that you have a MIDI Output set to go to the Axiom. This might be causing a MIDI Loop. As far as I know the Axiom doesn't contain any sound modules, so there's no need to route MIDI back to it.

Can you try setting the Axiom as an Input only and see if this fixes the problem?

Cheers,

Malcolm.
