Default Different versions of the same PLUGIN. What's the difference?

Can someone please explain the difference between a VST and VST3 & (x86) versions of a PLUGIN and why I might want to use one vs. the other?

I have several WAVES brand PLUGINS and I see they have provided ALL three of these versions.

If it matters, I have a custom built PC with the latest version of Windows and latest version of Reaper. 16 GIG ram, Solid State HD, not sure of the speed but it is fast!

Thank you in advance for everyone's input.....

VST3 is a newer implementation of VST. I would suggest using these by default, but try the VST version if you have any problems with the plugin.

x86 denotes a 32 bit plugin. Don't bother with these, it is for older systems that still use 32 bit operating system.

OK, got it! So, it sounds like VST3 is it!

Thanks for your input....
