How to put 2-3 or more landscape videos aligned above each other so it results in a portrait size video?
That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out right now but with no luck so far

The preset that makes the grid consists of 2 main loops (if I recall well): one to discovers which tracks/items to process and another to calculate the positions and size of the elements. To change the default placement behavior you need to recode the second loop which is no easy task. I am in the process of creating a video library that will address this lack of flexibility but I don't have any release date yet. In the mean time your best bet is to manually place each videos item (in layers) with "overlay image" presets (or the new version with rotation I just published).

Thank you for the tips. I definitely won't try to recode since I don't have time to learn EEL just for that. I'll try the workaround you suggested. I'll check out your version of the overlay preset too.

Tried DaVinci Resolve yesterday to get this grid-like video but I gave up when I realized you can't split or move video clips sub-frame. I have a clip that I want to constantly repeat - in every song section but this section is of a length that's not divisible by the framerate so if I split it by the frames and duplicated it it would slowly drift out of sync with the underlying song. It's weird that they allow splitting audio at the sample level but not video clips. So I returned to Reaper since it allows splitting video items in the same manner as audio items which allows me to easily sync audio and video.
Edit: If anyone reading this knows how to achieve sub-frame splitting and moving of video clips in Resolve (or a good workaround), please contact me. I'd still like to learn/utilize Resolve in the future but I don't have enough patience at the moment to find a workaround for this "feature".

n00b here, so go easy on me.

Am I a complete dolt, or have I completely missed where you configure the location of each video? I've seen some absolutely incredible work where different clips show up in different locations and I can't for the life of me figure out how to do that.

For example, I want to have each clip fade in, in the following order: 2, then 3, then 1, then 4.

I *think* this is possible based on the example in post 38 (https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...9&postcount=38) at about the 35 second mark.

I'd be more than appreciate for a point in the right direction. And or the place to read up on the config in using the plugin.

Many thanks in advance.

edit: I know I can have them fade in, in a particular order by rearranging them in the track listing on the LHS, however they fade in L to R, rather than in their respective (locked) locations in the screen shot above.

in which case I end up with this:

This preset *completely recalculates* the grid at each frame based on how many video sources are active at that moment. You can only make it appear at a specific location in the grid if all sources are active. The only other possibility is to use an overlay/image preset for each source and manually adjust its size and position in the grid you create (manually...good luck!). I have created a library of presets (GiraFX lib) that, among many other things, defines a stable grid with a indexed position for each element.

Thanks for sharing your FX. I'll dig through it and perhaps it will be what I'm looking for.

I had the idea of a slight workaround that I want to try and see if it's viable. Essentially, what you recommended, leading each video with blank footage then fading in at the chosen time.

Still sorting out in my head, and wandering ideas around.

Again, appreciate the input and share on your FX. I'll check it out.

Blank "footage" is a separate item holding a static & transparent gif of the same dimensions of your video source. You might also need to force video colorspace to RGBA in project settings->video->colorspace. There are other ways to achieve this with custom presets, but since you are new to this I would recommend sticking to this trick.
