Default Tempo mapping & MIDI

Okay, let's say I have a reference track I've tempo-mapped.

If I want to import a pre-made MIDI file, can I make it snap to the tempo map I made? Or am I stuck with moving individual MIDI notes manually?

Huh, still no answer to this? I still don't know how to do this.

First I would strip the midifile before importing.

That can be done with "midifilestripper" (google).
After stripping the midifile will not contain any
tempo-information. If you import this midifile it
should adapt to the given tempo reference track.

Will try!

UPDATE: this program does not exist.

The download link is in Japanese characters, you
have to search a little.

Hm, this should Just Work for newly imported MIDI files, assuming of course the notes in the MIDI item are beat-aligned.

See this video, particularly starting around 8:05:

I think you could also load the midi file in a separate empty project and let the midi file create the BPM if it has it.

Then you can change the BPM to the one you want it to be and copy/paste it into your main project file.

Aah, I forgot this, but give it a try anyway, it might work.

Ok maybe select the all the points in your main project, then right click and copy them.

Then go to the midi file project open Master tempo track and insert a tempo envelope, and paiste the copied tempo.

One way or another I think you can do it this way.

Never thought of doing it backwards like this. Worth a try!

Hey! It worked! Turns out my tempo map is more exact than this rando MIDI I found online.

Now if I can just figure out why the Arturia B3 doesn't want to play the MIDI...

Great! It worked okay. I think the files must've been made on a specific keyboard workstation, like a Korg M1 or some such. The overall length doesn't match my reference, but when I move notes around, things line up okay.
