Well it's a challenge all right, but an enjoyable one ... trying to show how all the pieces fit together really drives home to me what an amazing piece of software REAPER really is.

Hi Geoff-
I'll definitely be in line for your new book as soon as I'm gainfully employed again. I lost my job last month (along with nearly 600,000 others) due to the US economic free-fall, and there's definitely a trickle-down (make that "cascade-down") effect! All digits crossed for a relatively quick recovery, then I'll be sure to pick up your book!
Thanks-
-Susan

That's it! a possitive attitude always! of course, you'll get through that soon... many people have done it before, why would you be the exception? Go on and on even if all doors close... you'll get in for sure (the keyhole is always a good starting point)

I just bought it from a Swedish on-line book store ( www.adlibris.se), 284 SEK (approx US$35), including "free" shipping. Now, I'm eagerly waiting delivery... Thanks nicholas.

Susan,
Sorry to hear about your job loss (was it automotive related?). You are definitely not alone, I lost my job just before Christmas. Once I get a *few* medical issues under control, I hope to be able to go back to school (at the governments expense) and play a lot more music. It'll be just like I was 20 again!!
Try to see it as an opportunity, not a hardship. Okay enough sappy cliches. Take care.
Peace.

Susan ... as you know I passed this suggestion on to them and have just heard that they like the idea and are looking into the possibilities right now. Wheels sometimes turn slowly, so I can't give you a timeline, but thanks for the suggestion - see what a difference one person's good idea can make!

Hi Geoff-
That would be great! (More for you later! )
Thanks for everyone's encouraging words, and @bluzcat, no, not automotive. Restaurant and Retail Point of Sale software, and so many small businesses are going under that they basically have no new sales coming in and had to make some drastic cuts. Things are looking up a bit for retail, based on Jan numbers, but restaurants are still hurting.
Thanks again-
-Susan

I have a question. I have been recording for around 7 months now and FEEL I am getting a hang for what everything does. My issue now is just down to two things I guess:
1) understanding the finer points of reaper's functionality and why some of the advanced features are helpful/desired.
2) Tuning my ears so I'm not remixing a song 30 times to make it sound good on my MP3 player...
Would this book help in #1 or is it more an introduction? It looks like there's a few things in there I could use like learning about loops and routing/sends, but wondering how detailed that is?

Hey Surf-
It sounds to me like ReaMix would be more what your looking for.
ReaMix and the User Guide give pretty good explainations to the finer points,
and ReaMix will DEFINATELY help with point #2. It's a great book.
If your 7 mos in, and at the point you seem to be, there's nothing not covered
in those 2 that you'd miss from the Beginners guide. But if you're having issues with the fundamentals overall...the Beginners Guide might offer you a worthwhile amount of info.
Just IMO from your post.

Good Call Talli' -
The only thing I wondered as far as making it a sticky is...
would it maybe be better to move it to "Newbieland"?
I just wonder if those who need / would use, would look there first.
I guess we can point 'em here either way.
Either way I think you did the right thing.
Good on ya Bro.

good point about the newbie land. I cannot take the credit for the idea to hit this with a stick.

Just looked at the book at Amazon. It was 40 something in the list of recording book sales, not bad, even without a customer review.

Just got this book a couple of days ago and already a couple chapters in. Very good so far, and very easy to understand. Thanks for making a Reaper book. I'll come back to provide more feedback after I've finished.

This is great!!
I've been playing w/ REAPER for at least a year. Don't really record anything, just Like to see this work.I have been lurking here for awhile, And you all are a great bunch of People.
I started with nothing. Just my Bass, So I had to get everything else. Piece by piece.
I wanted this book so bad, I ended up driving down the coast to the next town, where they said It was in stock.('bout 25 miles)
This was will worth the trip. This as clue'd me in on so much.
Thank you so much. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you understand.
Again THX!!

I just seen a few copies of the book in a local Barns & Nobles tonight, read a few middle chapters and can see the great writing from ReMix and the User Guide has flowed into this book.....great job!
And the reason I was there......does anyone remember the Houlihan & Big Chuck show that aired on Channel 8 from Cleveland? You would more than likely have to be from the Great Lakes area of the USA....anyway, we went to see him tonight at a book signing, and had a great time! It was cool to see him again after 30 odd years, when I caught him and Lil' John at a benefit softball game.....man am I OLD!

WTF first review on Amazon 2 stars
http://www.amazon.com/Home-Recording...2549973&sr=8-1
The review is really not that bad when taken in context. An AES member with a degree in audio(?) He says that the lessons should be left out, and then says the lessons are the best part of the book(?) He comments on how accurate it is(?).........
He makes Reaper sound like the kind of overpriced software found on the Internet, that is only used by the ignorant.
Unfortunately many people will not read the review and just skip over the book after seeing 2 stars. I do not think this is fair to nicholas. I am slightly tempted to buy the book just to review it, but that would be silly (and hypocritical), and I know something else is coming

Thanks for this ... I would say that of course this person is of course entitled to post his views, but must agree with you that his comments are full of contradictions.
I am concerned that as an EXPERT he seems to be complaining that the book is too BASIC when it is in fact targeted at BEGINNERS!
I was wondering ... if anyone here who has the book and who has a more favorable opinion might care to post either a review of their own, or at least an honest and sincere reply to this ...

I've just read that review and it reads as a bitter retort to a bad impulse-buying decision; HRFB did not cover the subject matter or meet the academic expectations of the reviewer and that upset him.
Could I suggest that some of you who have purchased HRFB with a little more forethought post some more balanced reviews on Amazon? I haven't had a chance to look at the book, but your posts here do not tally with this chaps negativity.

Thanks for the feedback ... and perhaps I might just remind you that if you wish you can go to that web page and mark that you do not find this review helpful (if that's what you think!)

Hi nicholas-
Unfortunately I don't own this book, so I don't feel right about posting a review.
However, the person who posted this is obviously not well-equipped to review it:

God forbid!
Personally, I don't take Amazon customer reviews all that seriously, and I always consider the source. This guy, however, is functionally illiterate.

Ok. Would say this book could be a good basis for a short course targeted at teens and pre-teens? It seems that way, and Reaper seems like a brilliant choice.
Are there bulk rates/educational rates?
Thanks
