Is there a way to disable the display from following the play cursor?

When I zoom in and try to edit a loop's start/end points during playback, the display starts following the play cursor everytime the loop finishes 1 cycle. If I click somewhere, it does not follow it until the next cycle begins.
This can be very annoying.
There is an option in preferences>playback "Don't autoscroll view (when enabled) when viewing other parts of project", however it does nothing in my case...
Is there a way to stop this from happening or is this a bug?
