what do you want to delete? for most media items and also for tracks just selecting them hitting the Delete key does the job.

... or if you prefer not to use the keyboard you can add a Delete active take from item tool to one of your toolbars.

pressing delete is not the problem here
i would just like to have a tool that deletes everything in a certain bar/block
does some kind of a paint/sony acid kinda delete tool exist?
the hunt continues..

Here's how you can set it up.
1. Create a custom action with "select item under mouse cursor" and "remove items" in that order.
2. Add a button on to a toolbar with this action.
3. Right click the button to make it a "smart tool" and click whatever items you want to delete.

thanks a bunch..this looks great!
possible to tell the custom action to delete everything in a certain bar/block?
lets say i have a lot of samples in one 8 bar block, or (and this actually my goal) is when i zoom out over viewing the whole project, i would like to delete blocks with samples in them at once..(when gridlines on 1 for example)
hope im clear here..
anyway you helped out tremendously already..drinks on me!

Hmmm....probably. If nothing else, you can add "split items at time selection" first in the action and just select out what you want to delete. Not sure about per-bar stuff, but I'll take a look.

Thanks SwampApe
Useful thread thanks Swampy and Nicholas. This is a handy thread to get into Reaper with over the summer break. (Australia) so it is coming into Summer).
BTW do they have swamps and apes in North West Carolina? I thought it was in the Blue Ridge Montains and the do not like beings descended from apes? On the othe Hand Rolling Stone Magazine in 2000 called Ashville "the new freak capital of the US. ignore me pulling your chain it is that fun time of year.

Not quite, but along the lines of what Swamp Ape already suggested, you can also split the selected item(s) at the timeline grid. Then you can delete which ever parts you'd like. The action is called Item: Split items at timeline grid. You may have to adjust the grid line spacing first to get blocks the size you need, righ click the Grid button on the main toolbar.

This seems to be the way to do it. I couldn't find any per-bar or per-measure combos that worked well.

was fuzzing around a bit with what you said and tried some other mouse modifier behavior,no lux so farrr
so my best bet is the standard (windows) right mouse click/drag-select(all)-delete.
too bad cause this work fine 'zoomed in' but not if you work with tons of tiny samples over viewing a 8 min project with 30/40/50 track/channels.
the hunt continues..
thanx again for the feedbax

don't know if it can help, also using volume automation over the lfo tool, using square as waveform.

thanksss...what i meant is actually deleting items/sample snippets between certain grid-lines.
think sony acid used to have this and it was a pretty sweet tool to delete 8/16/32 bars at once.

This is a bit lenghty, but it works for removing all sections of items within one measure on SELECTED tracks!
Assign this to a toolbar button, then right click the button so you have this action as a tool behaviour!
