Make a time selection on the timeline, then in render settings set to MP3 and render the time selection only.
You need to make sure you can exactly align what the user submits back into your project. So long as the user sends back a WAV that is the exact length of the file you sent you can do it that way, assuming you make a region or something so you have the original positions marked.
Also supply your project's sample rate and bit depth so the user can use the same when they attempt the solo ideas. Someone else may have a quicker/easier method, not sure.

If you like, I have a Drop Box account that I set up to collaborate with other musicians on, didn't get a lot of takers, but if you want to use it, PM me with your contact info and I'll fix you up with the login info.
The reason this might be a better way to go because with the Drop Box account, you can upload the entire song so that the soloist can use the entire song as his or her inspiration for the solo.

Could you give me an idea about what the song is about, what you're trying to express, etc and what kind of tone were you thinking about with the solo guitar, clean, distorted, tempo???
Begin 89.01, end 121.1. Whole thing goes from 81.1 to 125.1.
So the solo starts 8 bars in and ends 4 bars before the end of the recording.
I intend to mix and play with after.
Sounds good, I'll see if I can take a try if I get a free moment and hopefully others will join in - You might change the subject of the first post to some thing like 'need gtr solo collab' or something similar just so people who see it know what's up.

Distorted, trying to get back to Middle Earth, rock - blues. Change tempo up and down. Last part of a 25 minute song that has many changes. Our band wrote and played this song over 40 years ago, with first mini-moog in Canada.
Here's something I worked up to kick off the party. The YouTube video is unlisted so it's only available from this collab thread - if it becomes useful, I can burn a proper WAV file of the isolated gtr track for download - the picture is what I was playing through... For 32 bars of solo at the end of a 25 minute song, seems like it should build energy as it goes so that's what I did...

Sounds good! Thanks so much, I would like a WAV file of it. But is it possible to let the last note extend 1/2 or 1 bar past what I need? Then I can reduce the volume to zero gradually.
Extended note and download - I had to crank the amp a bit to get it to sustain that last high note - hope its OK. You should be able to snap it to bar 81.01 and things will align properly. I removed the delay/verb I had from the raw track FYI, you can add that back in your mix if needed.

Nice to see ya Barry, haven't heard from you in awhile.
Thanks Karbo I've had a lot of Orthopaedic work over the last year thanks to arthritis and I've found it hard to get motivated in my hobbies. Off to the hospital today for the dressing coming off my wrist and then it's physio to get my hand working properly again. At least I'm starting to feel the old muse again and now I can walk properly once more (mostly!) I'm feeling more like my old self. Mikael (Msundh) is currently giving his ear to some of my early songs/mixes and I hope maybe one or two will be worth re-recording. Onwards and upwards...
