Hideous, perhaps. Useful, probably not. Headache-inducing, for sure. But then, so was the hardware it emulates:

Looks like the Wasp synth I have in the cupboard! (And as a VSTi if I actually wanted to use that Wasp sound).

That'll work.

I actually meant for it to look like those older greenish-yellow backlit LCD displays, the kind that would come on gear that had only pushbuttons and 36 levels of submenus to go through if you wanted to change the gain on an input channel.

I'm not quite sure if that technology is old enough to qualify for the "vintage" moniker, but it always seemed to me to have a sort of eery, intimidating look, especially since the chassis was invariably black with red lights.
