Drumdrops has some nice sounding drum libraries for at a reasonable price. If you are using Kontakt Player, I have been pleased with Abbey Road: 60s Drummer (if you are into British Invasion, 60s Soul, and Cream/Hendrix psychedelia).

I haven't used fxpansion BFD3, but I have a few kits that I use in BFD Eco which I like--so I imagine the full upgrade is probably even better.

I imagine that the drum mappings for MIDI drumkits are user-friendly for drummers, but I cannot say for sure since I usually step-enter, use guitar/keyboard MIDI controllers, or drag-and-drop drum loops to create my drum tracks.

Anyway, I wish you well in your search as there are a lot a good drum libraries to be found at an accessible price. :-)

BFD Eco I could not get on with using it from my E-kit.

But there again you have heard what an expert drummer I am!

Once again - get as many of the free demos as you can (some are not free but very cheap and well worth trying to see how you get on with their method of doing things

The free version of EZDrummer is enough to give you a good idea of how easy the whole toontrack range is to set up with an e kit, for instance.
Free kontakt player WILL play same as the full one, just that the stuff you load drops out every now and then. Still enough to get feel for it.

I am pretty sure AD does a free or next best thing to it demo and BFD eco you can usually pick up for very very little.
Fr better to spend a little time and money now rather than a LOT of money and time on something that works out NOT to be the best option for you.
I did that, which is part of the reason I now have a zillion drum romplers.

In particular, make sure to take note of the last part of the second video (from 8:45) where Nir gives a good demonstration of the hihat response. Those videos were what originally sold me on SD2 and I have not been disappointed.

checked your synth site.

cannot wait to talk to you about keys!!

and tracking vocals!!!

ok, I think that BFD3 is the one I'm gonna pick.
in my mind, this is a very subjective thing.
it's all about what works for you.
would anyone please tell me if they think my computer specs are ok for BFD3? I read the minimum and recommended specs at their website. but I am looking for real users thoughts.
here's my computer specs:
1 year old HP Envy notebook.
i7 processor 4th generation
750 Gb regular HD
256 SS drive I installed
8 Gb RAM
windows 8.1

You should be okay with those specs, more RAM wouldn't hurt. With only 8GB of RAM be sure to find the preference about loading the whole kit into RAM and be sure its not checked.

You may want to download the demo and try it before putting down your cash.

Enjoy.

Perhaps not what you are looking for, but I use Poise and a large collection of wave files I've collected over the years. It's cheap, has a Reaper-like license and works for me. I also have a large collection of MIDI drum tracks, including the one's I released many years ago. . .

Here's a free option, SMM's 1960s Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=147296

The full version uses 6GB of memory, other versions less.

thank you.

at the risk of sounding like a moron, I have used BFD3'd demo alot now.
then, I shut the computer off and just used the V Expressions Evolution that I bought last week.
http://www.vexpressionsltd.com/index.html
I loved it.
wondering now if its worth the money and aggravation to get BFD3.

I fully understand that this is a very subjective thing, and that what works for me, works for me, and what works for you, works for you, and there's not right or wrong, there's just what works for you.

now I wish I could try a demo of BFD3, that was uncrippled.
one more thing to like about Reaper being like that.

It doesn't seem like you're interested in it, but I'll just toss in my recommendation for Addictive Drums. I'm a fairly experienced drummer and diy recording guy. AD sounds superb and integrates very well with my e-drums, including the hihat control. (Though for tracking I often use the module sounds for absolute minimum latency and record the MIDI into Reaper, then use AD from there.)

I understand completely if you've got your heart set on a particular software, but I think they're all pretty capable at this point and if there's still room for you to consider another option, the $99 deal on the Addictive Drums 2 bundle that's running at Guitar Center and Sweetwater and whatnot is an absolutely screaming bargain. I'd toss my two cents in as a user who prefers it regardless, but at that price it's really just nuts.

I have BFD Eco, it's more like a demo version (though it's not bad). AD has a free demo you can download, but you can only buy it as the whole ham on rye.

You know what, let's see if I can just give you my serial number for my copy of BFD Eco. I never use it anyway.

If you can send me a PM with your e-mail address, I'll switch over the account info and send you the login info and the serial number, and you should be able to just download BFD Eco and authorize it (I would imagine). I'll go and make sure it's uninstalled off my workstation.

Gerry, it might even be cheaper at Sweetwater.

liking what I'm hearing on AD website demo's.

would you please possibly recommend what 2 ADPAKS to get?
I like all genre's of music.
and all I want this for, is to use with my V drums set. for fun.
I do not care about MIDI or Grooves at all. (most likely, never use them.)

I recently picked up EZDrummer2. It's really good. I've been using it with my friend to track his album. It's been so easy to be creative quickly, get the arrangement down then start building on it.

Recommended.

to be honest, if you have a TD15 with the extra kits, you already have some great sounds going for you.

Have you considered just reining in your enthusiasm for a while and learning to use and record the E-kit first?
Even my TD8 isn't THAT cheesy once I dialled it in....
And there are always sales on drum romplers (which is why I have so many!)

thats good to hear that there are always sales.

Can't help on the kits you need Chas as depends on what style of music you play. You can review each ADPAK. Just scroll down and they are all there, double click on anyone then and listen to the demos. At the bottom you will see SHOW ME MORE DEMOS. So you can really preview every pack before you buy.

I am in Europe € so Sweetwater deal is no better than I get direct from XLN but thanks for the tip.

Have a good one,

Gerry

Default Wondering how you like sd2?

I've Been using SD2 with a Td15 and reaper for about a week now. Huge learning curve, but it's all making sense. I got into it to be able to record my drums on separate tracks. Everyday I learn something new with it. Just looking for tips if you stuck with it.

Oh dear! Revisited the thread to see how chas was doing.
Now I am wondering AGAIN what I can sell to fund a TD12 or if I can swing it a TD20 brain.
And of course a "proper" HiHat!

E-Drumkits are worse than boats! (but mostly cheaper)

how incredibly funny that you posted this yesterday. I never check this forum.only the general forum.

nice to hear from you Ivan.
hope you are doing great.
I freakin love SD 2 and the expansion packs I got for it.
the Vexpression kits are awesome as well.
I have not been playing it for a couple weeks.
only so many hours in the day.
and I cannot get enough of singing accompanying myself on acoustic guitar.
but, check this out. BFD 3 is on sale . like huge sale man.
I'm getting it. its a no brainer.
psyched.
and as for hi hat.....its the one bad thing.
it works very good with the TD 15 by itself (as in no SD 2).
with SD 2, it is so so at best.

What is the BFD3 copy-protection / registration system?

I'm thinking of getting it but I need a drum VST that can run on two computers simultaneously. Both computers are OFFLINE.

From the BFD3 manual:

Quote:
The Owner may only install and use BFD3 on multiple computers strictly under the following conditions: where
multiple computers comprise part of a single composition workstation for a single composer; or where the owner
has two non-concurrent sites of work, for example a studio desktop computer and a laptop computer for live
performances.

Multiple installation is controlled by a machine-specifc challenge and response system with a limited number of
authorizations. FXpansion may, at its own discretion, grant further authorizations for a particular license holder.
Is that the info you were looking for?

Yes Bluzkat! Thanks very much!

So being challenge/response, did you have to go at all online to authorize your BFD 3 license? I read somewhere that there is a sort of Service Center installed with BFD 3 (pppfff...)

thank you very much again bluzkat.
got it working today.
I only played it for a short time.
but I have a feeling that I'm really gonna love it.
I have plenty to learn.
morfi, I ain't no genius at installing these types of things. I fumble my way through.
I only have it on 1 computer.
but the authorization and installation went pretty good.
the download took many hours.
