Default Bouncing single midi tracks to multiple audio tracks

Hi everybody,

So, I am recording an electric drum kit using Battery 3 and have a track with all of the drum midi information on it. I am looking for a way to separate out the individual drums so I can process them individually, i.e. one track for kick, one for snare, one of each tom, one for hi-hats, and then an "overhead" track(s) for my cymbals.

I have found a way to explode out the midi tracks to where each note value is on its own track, but I cannot figure out how to make an audio track for each of these individual tracks. I have tried routing the output of each track to designated audio tracks and then recording, but that doesn't seem to work. Any advice? Thanks.

You can route each track to the track that contains the sample player.
Look for threads on using multi-timbral synths and samplers. You would load multiple instances of the samples on different midi channels.

Or you can place the sample player on each track.

To turn from midi to audio you would just render.

By the way, what did you use to get the midi notes onto separate tracks?

PAPT - to get the midi notes to separate tracks I did Item Process --> Explode by Pitch. But when i do this, i cannot use automation on the individual tracks, only on the parent midi track.

I don't want to have my sample player on each track because of the load on my computer.

I don't understand what you mean by "loading multiple instances of the samples on different midi channels". Could you explain that a little further?

If you sample player is multi-timbral you can load the samples in more than once.

For example in Kontakt I can load a guitar sample set and set it to work on midi channel 1.
I can load that same guitar again and set it to play on midi channel 2.
I can then have 2 midi tracks with different midi notes on each and route them both to the track that contains Kontakt.
I set one to play on midi channel 1 and the other to midi channel 2.

If your drum samples are for individual drums rather than a full drum set, you could just load each drum separately and set each one to a different midi channel.

Battery should be able to do these things.

Try loading battery in a new project to experiment.

Load battery.

Now look in the upper left of the effects window. Click options. Click build multichannel routing. Then click build 16 channels of midi.

Now you have separate midi tracks feeding separate channels in Battery where you can load separate sounds which will feed out to separate audio tracks in Reaper where you can do various manipulation with effects to each sound.

Thanks for the help. This does help a little bit, but I'm still not sure that it is exactly what I am looking for. I'll play with it some more and see if I can't get down exactly what you are saying.

On the track Battery is in click the IO button and change the number of track channels from 2 to 24.
Click on the FX button, under Options click "Build multi output" and new tracks will be built.
In Battery route the cells to these outputs (REAPER will have given them the same names).
Rename the tracks to something more meaningful.
I think that's it, done.

Yep, do what bradleyfilms said. And in addition: dont explode your MIDI by pitch! It is just complicating the matter.
