Updated channel spread, wrapping round to check the red/pink transition. channel 1 turquoise is in the middle there.
I feel a) I'm starting to get really good differentiation, and b) phew that's a lot of orange. But if the shoe fits...
People, what do you think? Lend me your eyes/monitors!

Yeah, oops, I did spot that eventually

Not bad. But desaturated colours like that would suffer more for lack of colour differentiation after being brightened for selected state.

Cubase Elements 8
Channels: (1 at the top)
Notation voices:
left:SATB, right S2 A2 T2 B2 (they have 8 equal voices)
Velocities:
Pithes:
And it's all easily customizable:

Right, well we definitely won't be copying cubase then; they manage to look both drab AND inconsistent in tone

I think there could be one less orange and one more green.
EDIT: Or maybe one less blue?

Could you make those rectangles smaller and spread them randomly over a dark BG? That would be a lot closer to the actual usage.

Yep. Too much IMHO. I mean they do say orange is the new black... eh?

I know this has been discussed, and I'm not really concerned about the ME editor background color...dark is fine. But as it is now, I don't see enough contrast in the vertical measure/beat lines. When I look at a MIDI performance, I want to quickly scan for my overall timing. Now I have to squint, zoom in, etc. It's better in a highlighted area.
Hope you can find a way to improve this.
thanks!

you are totally right
it should be much more obvious

Quick impressions on the MIDI Editor:
1. Like the background colors and overall look.
2. Unselected notes are too dark. They're so mellow, they almost look like they belong to a different, inactive track/clip.
3. There are too many velocity colors. Purple, blue, turquoise, green, orange, red? What does that mean to me? A two-color diverging color scheme would be much more effective. Blue to Red (like a thermometer) is the most obvious/intuitive. Blue to orange works too.
4. I think having the measure number appear higher than the sub-divisions in the ruler doesn't look particularly great. It's also inconsistent with the main arranger ruler. I'd also like to see a little more contrast with those numbers. They're a little difficult to see on my laptop in a dimly lit room.

Note colors in the MIDI editor look nice and clear!
Bar line and beat, hope to be clearer.
