FireWire card...

I've read here and other places that Presonus products need a firewire that's 400 and has a TI chipset. The computer (I helped set up) at the studio I work/play at is fine in that dept. ,but I've had to rebuild my home pc and the new mobo has no FW port, so...

Anyone know if any of these use a TI chipset?

Most likely NOT. (especially anything in the $10 range...)

Go with Belkin or SIIG - and stay away from combo firewire/usb cards.

yea, kind of what I figured. most of the TI cards are about $80 (yikes), except for this one ($44):

One more quick question: Since I'm only going to use it with a presonus inspire and I only need it for recording (scratch?) guitar with 1 mic/channel, does it really matter what card I get? It will be a light load, but is it a flat out case of it working or just not working?

You can get Belkin or SIIG firewire cards from newegg for <$50.

If you get a cheapy, you could have pops, crackles, dropouts of data or it simply won't see the interface.

The mantra to remember is 'when doing audio and video, ONLY use TI chipsets'
They're the gold standard the interface manufacturers use and they'll WORK.

Not to start a necro-post, but if people want, I do 'work' "with" M-Audio, and have been compiling lists of working FW cards.

TI is preferred, however it is not exactly, the king.

There are very specific TI chipsets that work better, but even those are not exactly guaranteed.

I have a small, but somewhat working list of cards and some computers themselves that do have working FW cards or chipsets. I only have it in spreadsheet form, but can post them here if people want them.

The research as taken me plenty of time, so I don't want to just slap it up unless I know people are going to refer to it. If you want it stickied, I could post it as a new thread, and the mods/admins can take care of that.
