Default Reaper won't pick up my mic or record from the built-in microphone. Pics in body.

Okay below is what I'm using as far as hardware is concerned:

Computer: MacBook Pro 15" running MacOS Big Sur

Reaper v6.16/OSX64 (Free Version. I'll buy it if I can get this stuff working)

Interface: Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD (4 input, Mic is in input 1)

Microphones: AKG C214/Behringer C-2 (I've tried both)

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have the monitoring enabled in the track. I have the interface selected in preferences. I tried re-starting Reaper, and I tried re-starting my computer. I also tried to record directly through my computer's mic, but that didn't work, either. Because of this, I don't think the problem is that the interface isn't connected to a wall outlet. Nothing has worked, and I do not see the mic meter picking up any sound in the track, regardless of what I do. I don't know what the problem could be. I set everything up in Audacity just the same as I did here, and I didn't have any problems Could someone lend a suggestion? Thanks!

If you get this problem solved for me, I'll literally pay Reaper the $60 license fee and post proof in the comments. I can provide more pics/information if necessary.

Any "DAW" you try, has it's own learning curve, Don't give up, keep trying.
I do not use the version 6 theme, so I'm not sure of what's happening from the Photo.

Do you have enabled "Monitoring" turned on?

In case you didnt already check it, recent versions of MacOS seem to have a habit of ignoring mics unless you tell them to use the mic. I havent checked but I suspect the link Stella posted will tell you how to fix it. Other wise, go to the Mac section of this forum and ask them there.

I would say most likely your "interface" requires power, if that is not powered, it will not work, so that that is part of your problem.

The UMC404HD does both USB bus power or wall wart. I'd think that if it's being seen and selected by Reaper it's being powered enough to function.

I'd consider using wall power - particularly if I was aiming to phantom power a mic. But if, as you say, it all works in Audacity, I don't see how that can be the problem. I don't see how permissions could be the problem either, though (if it works in Audacity). Which leaves (perhaps) your selection of the input source for the track, if you right click on the record arm button you should see an option to choose the actual input you'll be using...
