Install 5.99 on Ubuntu Studio
I want to install Reaper 5.99 on Ubuntu Studio.
Unfortunately the my search terms are too generic and the signal to noise is difficult for me to find the right info. I have tried to run the install script from the terminal about 25 different ways and none of them work. I haven't used Linux in a few years and am likely forgetting things. I Searched basic install of tar.xz and the results vary widely and none work. I have made it work before years ago but now the hardware has better support and seemed to work well during a test run. Is there a place where there is a tutorial for installing Reaper onto Ubuntu Studio? Are there steps I should be taking to prepare the Reaper install? I'm trying to turn a discarded laptop into a mobile recording rig. I have made everything run as proof of concept but would like to have Reaper installed to the system so that I can have a launcher for it. I just did a clean install of the OS and the only software I need to add is Reaper. |

The steps should be: 1. Extract the archive 2. Open a terminal 3. path/to/the/extracted/archive/install-reaper.sh 4. Follow the on-screen instructions

Is it even necessary to run the install script? The executable works out of the box on Fedora.

The install script will however put an icon on your menu and associate .rpp files with REAPER. |

Thank you cfillion
3. path/to/the/extracted/archive/install-reaper.sh Is what I needed to know. This is the part that was confusing instructions I was finding because I think it's unique to each user. Your instruction made perfect sense to me. Thank you. I could run it from a USB stick but I just want the one USB connection on the back for the interface without anything sticking out the side of the laptop. |

As Glennbo says, you could have a folder
/home/bgt/.599 with the extracted reaper archive contents placed there. launch reaper in a terminal: .599/reaper Easy to test/maintain multiple (or custom) reaper versions. Also, /opt is a root/sudo access folder, a small nuisance when under the hood sometimes. And terminal output can be valuable, and if a wild-eyed experiment freezes reaper, just close the terminal. Same during plugin scans that get thwarted midstream. Close the terminal, and reaper resumes scanning past the trouble when restarted Cheers |
