Default Automatic Auto-Save - to the rescue!

Feature request: Make it so Reaper saves our projects even if we haven't named them yet. Just like Notepad++ does; it auto-names them "tab 1.txt", "tab 2.txt". Reaper would essentially do the same thing. And with the option to save recorded audio. And if you've ever tried the Simplenote app, it auto-saves after you type. No Ctrl-S needed. Would I like that in Reaper? Yes, please!

Scenario: sometimes we just want to start creating and jot down musical ideas. So we fire up Reaper and hit record. 10 minutes later, a plugin or bug in Reaper causes a crash. Poof. It's all gone. The current iteration of Auto-Save is ON. Yay! But we didn't name the project yet or save it. Going against what the user *actually* wanted, the Auto-save didn't auto save. Poos! ...and what not.

(Yes, turning on 'Save to time-stamped file in additional directory' creates a backup but, problem is, if it's set to 1 minute or even 3 or 5, it will just fill up with a crazy number of backups. Yeah, I tried that one.

Yeah, may be a good option. In Preferences -> Project there is a setting "Prompt to save on new project", which will show a dialog to save a project each time you create a new one.

Oh, yeah. I know - that prompt is really annoying though. Just do it, Reaper. Just do it!

You simply need to name an "additional directory" and check the option in prefs/project and then unnamed projects will be backed up. Should set by default but isn't.

Thanks! Where is that option? I only see a date-stamped additional directory option.
