Default Problems sending MIDI drums to separate channels

Hi all,

I've been trying to send my MT 2 Power Kit drums to different channels so I can EQ/reverb/etc different drums, but I'm having trouble getting any sound when I output to different channels. I've watched 2 online tutorials (Kenny's one on the Reaper site, and another on youtube) and followed them more or less to the letter, but I can't for the life of me get any sound beyond the kick drum.

To show in picture form what I've done, here's a screenshot of my MT kit with various instruments going to different channels, as well as all the pins I need enabled:

and then here's a screenshot of how I have my track 5 "Drums" sending various channels to tracks 6-11 exactly as per the tutorials:

I've done nothing more or less than the tutorials showed me, but the only instrument I hear is the kick drum - and I can see that's because there's a 1/2-1/2 hardware out on the track 5. I can of course add up to channel 11/12 output in that fashion, but that's just using track 5. and if I try to add other outputs to channels 6-11 there is no sound anyway.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I must be missing something!!!

Cheers

Two things:

1) You might already know this - you can save yourself a lot of work by using
Track > Insert virtual instrument on new track...
and have REAPER build the routing for you.

2) In your image, Track 5 appears to be a folder. What happens if you change that?

Oh christ, un-foldering it fixed everything straight away! haha. Thanks man.
In one of the tutorials he had them all in a folder, but on closer inspection the main drum track was simply the first track inside the overall folder. Glad I posted this to newbieland and not expertland! haha. Cheers again.

You're welcome. For future reference:
# If it's a guitarist in a pub quiz, it's Jimmy Page;
# If it's a keyboard player in a pub quiz, it's Rick Wakeman;
# If it's REAPER tracks not playing, it's because of the folder.

In this case it was feedback routing. The folder parent sending to its own children which are then passing back to the parent. Reaper was protecting you from finding out the hard way how loud 64 bit floating point can actually get.

Call the VSTi track “kick” and then if you need a drum bus, it will be some other track.
