MIDI Instruments inaudible after Reaper restart

Hoping this is a quick-fix:

When I close and then re-open Reaper, all the MIDI instruments are inaudible until I click the FX button off and then on again.

Is there a way that the MIDI Instruments will stay audible the way I left them before closing Reaper?

A little more information might be required. This is not normal behaviour.

Is this occuring with just one project? More than one? All projects with MIDI instruments?

Has this always been the case, or has it just started happening?

Also, which MIDI instruments are affected?

Incidentally, welcome to the forums! I assume you already found the free User guide and free tutorial videos at reaper .fm, but if not check them out. Very helpful
