Default Impossible to install Relab LX480 plugin in Reaper

I tried few times but impossible. Plugin properly installed, there is a dialogue "activate the plugin", but at the same time Reaper comes with the message "plugin was terminated" and all is over. It can't be rescanned etc. and it never appears in Reaper again (although it is properly installed). I tried few times to reinstall, restart computer - no chance, the same things happens again and again.

I open DaVinci Resolve, the plugin is immediately seen, activated and works.

So I wonder what is going on in Reaper.

It is working fine for me, so maybe it has something to do with your maschine?

What OS, Reaper version, etc are you using?

You might try copying or moving the dll file into the main reaper fx folder.
I’m wondering what the relab offers you that is not available in pcm native?

Not sure if this is related or not...

There was a bug in LX480 Essentials such that one of the upgrades (v1.01 maybe?) would not work with Reaper. Not sure if that is still the current version or not, but loading it would do a hard crash. I had to go back to v1.0 to get it working. I'm not sure if that was ever fixed.

Once a plugin has been terminated by Reaper you need to tell it to rescan it. I know it's not the recommended procedure for getting a plugin to rescan, but if you're comfortable editing INI files you can remove the line from the reaper-vstplugins.ini file that holds the info for LX480 and it will try again. Just the one line. But make backup first!!! and please don't hold me responsible for problems caused by sloppy editing. It's not recommended.

Essentials working fine on Windows 10 here.

Did you activate it in iLok manager before letting REAPER scan it?

Of course ... all good (and as I said it is activated and perfectly works for example in DaVinci).

Rescanning plugins does not help in Reapet

Anyway, 3 days trial has expired, so I have not tried anything ...

This works for me:
When you want a difficult plugin to work in Reaper manually add the location of the plugin again, even if that folder location is already there. IOW Copy and paste location path in addition.
Clear cache, rescan.

Most of the time you will not need to do this.

FWIW I haven't tried that plugin. Happy enough with the Fusion IR Lexicon 448 & 224 IRs in Reverberate 3.
That's on a nice price too, but I already had it so not looking for more ways to get that Lexicon sound.

I don't understand how your "trial" has expired when you say the licence has been activated?

Have you installed it twice by accident and Reaper is picking up the unlicenced version from a different install path?

When you scan are you choosing the option to scan "plugins which fail to scan"? Is it in the "failed to scan" list?

Have you tried a new portable install of Reaper and try to load just that one plugin?

I presume they mean the demo license, which needs to be activated if it's an iLok plugin.

I bought a Focusrite Scarlett 1 input jobbie to use with my laptop recently and got it for free. Which was nice.

I think the demo period ran out before they could resolve the issue.

As alternatives.

R4 reverb for £9 (that's not a crippled baby version of a plugin either!).
That was created by Michael Carnes, Lexicon hardware creator.

Also Nimbus by the same guy, also £9:

The result is that I installed LX480 as any other plugin and it did not show in Reaper in any way (while it is placed in the VST folder with all the other plugins). All other plugins are installed and working normally.

This particular plug doesn't play nicely with Reaper, it seems. There are several threads on this.

I have contacted both PB and Relab, but I just get the standard BS.

Shame, because it sounded lovely the few minutes before it crashed Reaper.

Yeah, it also crashes for me when I change the theme for the plugin as well. Hopefully the devs can look into this and fix it soon.

B.Friday/Cyber blah blah prices.
Yep they've gone back up. It's ridiculous. Probably be back to silly prices again in January sales is my guess. Maybe even cheaper, who knows.

These were genuine products that were sold for a long time at those full prices before iZotope bought Exponential.

I tried "exponential reverb" just few days ago ... to me they sound a bit thin and synthetic. Lexicon is just on another planet.

Well that's the brand not a specific reverb, but fine use a Lexicon. All the Lexicons sound synthetic too, but I like the way the 224 happens to sound synthetic. Reverberate 3 special IRs do that justice.

These are specific reverbs - like R2, R4, Symphonic etc ... I tried them all. They sound very similar.

Hmm, really?
If you didn't like them I don't know why on earth you would try all of them!

When I have used them I did find the highs have to be rolled off more than most. It's not a reverb to go by the presets without modifying them.

I did not try Symphonic. They didn't give that one away in a Christmas cracker yet so..

I've just bought LX480 Essentials, and it works perfectly fine.

Just make sure that the license is activated in your iLok manager before installing the plugin, and choose the right installation path. In Windows, the installer suggests by default the path "program files/steinberg/vstplugins", but for many users (like me) it's just "program files/vstplugins".

This happened to me, too. It installed perfectly and worked flawlessly ... or so it seemed. After a couple of minutes, it crashed Reaper. And it keeps on crashing Reaper a couple of minutes (or seconds) after I load it on a channel.

Yep. Randomly crashes here too. Nice enough reverb with a fun 'real world' retro gui,but not worth the instability. Plenty of others sound just as good.

Default LX-480 Essentials crashing Reaper... SOLVED!

I`ve solved my problem with LX-480 Essentials crashing Reaper 64bit.

I bought JBridge (what a nifty piece of software) and `bridged` the LX-480 into a VST 2.4 (64bit) wrapped plugin. LX-480 now works without crashing Reaper! The sliders still have that annoying `lag`, but it functions and sounds great.

NOTE: Relab emailed me to say Reaper is not supported (I call bs to that). Reaper is so well-written.. it rarely (if ever!) crashes on me. I suspect LX-480 Essentials is poorly coded.

Anyhoo, I love the sound of the LX-480.. so it`s been worth the effort to get it working. Via JBridge, I also now have all my favorite 32bit plugins (Smart Electronix, arcDev, Jack Dark, K Brown, H.G. Fortune, Inear Display, etc) working in Ableton Live as well. wOOt!
